Great little player - Cant fault for the price only thing missing is the HDMI lead.

u get what you pay for!!!

I saw this yesterday in our local Tescos too. Wouldn't normally consider Technika but I was thinking of getting it for my daughter's bedroom and at least returning it for a refund if it's pants is pretty much hassle free.

I hope you ignore all the deals on this site whereby 'major brands' end up dirt cheap then.

Original Poster

Purchases a Technika 37" 1080p tv 2 years ago and been more than happy with its quality and performance so wouldnt hesitate to purchase their technology especially at the price they knock it out. Only checked out this player last night to see if it played divX OK. Played films from DVD's and from a memory stick no problem and displayed a slideshow of snaps i had on the stick in great detail. Its only for my daughters bedroom but i'd recommend it on what i saw on a 37" screen let alone anything smaller. Sometimes you get more than you pay for, isnt that the aim of this site! ;¬D

Not a big fan of the people who bombard the so called "cheap make" posts. If you dont like good, cheap deals, get off HUKD.

heat from me. Even if its just for a 2nd reception/bedroom use, i think its a bargain.

Apart from genuinely exceptional special offers / second hand, its extremely difficult to find any blu-ray player for less than the £79.99 mark, for some reason there seems to be an invisible floor on the price at this point....

And although you can get a sony S370 for £80-90 at the moment, that's almost twice the price, which for a lot of people, especially right after christmas and in the current economy is a big if not insurmountable price difference. If you have no interest in internet video streaming, and you arent a tech snob, this is Hot.

I also saw this in tesco st-stephens in hull, loads in stock at 10am.

Where from? Been looking for one but cant find it cheaper than £99...

A few in Tesco South Stevenage. Got one this afternoon.

I find that the cheaper/unknown brands play more files and just work better than the branded stuff.

I have one made by Cyberhome which does nothing wrong yet a Sony one I had a laser problem three times!!

So heres the start of cheap blu ray players

This was posted 3 or 4 days back. and on the original post their is now an unlock code for multiregion dvd and change region blu ray. I bought one and have done this too mine.

Apart from differences in boot times, menu layouts etc ... is there really much of a difference in picture quality from one bluray player to the next ? Genuine question.

Me & my bro set up his PS3, my Panasonic bluray player & my old man's Bush bluray player side by side and, well, we couldn't notice much if any difference between them apart from very slight colour differences.

Think this is quite a good deal. Am kinda hoping the price of players will fall soon, suspect the manufacturers/retailers are keeping their budget models at an artificially high £80-£90 mark.

Will this play .mkv files via USB?

hack code below guy's

Switch on
open tray
press "set-up" on remote
enter 9113

An additional configure menu will come up on the left hand side of the screen that allows you to change the dvd region to any or region free. Below that it lets you set the Bluray region to A, B or C.

There shouldn't be - there's no component quality issue, it's all digital, entirely by a standardised process. Decrypt, decode, send to TV. Every bluray player should produce 100.00% bit-identical output to the next.

The only quality issue should be difference in dvd upscaling.

not bad at all

Cheapest I've seen a Blu Ray player, so heat from me. Don't be fooled into thinking that you have to have a premium brand, it'll do the job fine.

Not bad with extra 3% quido & 98 clubcard points. Pity there's not a 500 tesco direct clubcard voucher knocking about. Could have made it a really hot deal

It's the same, the current price is £49.97.

good post! great deal!

i got one of these for my girlfriend for xmas for £49
been that price over a week now.
they have a very small footprint, being half the size of my samsung blu-ray
have to say i couldnt see a difference in the picture from my £130 samsung
needed a hdmi cable, but got that from asda for £4 as tesco didnt do one for under £10
could have got a cable even cheaper but didnt have the time to shop around

I know this site is for the cheaper deals but maybe with items like Blu Ray players a £50 player may not be your safest bet. Firmware updates are going to be more than likely non-existent so if you want BD-Live its a no go.

However, for those after a budget player go for this. Heat added.

Mind you those who buy Blu Ray players stereotypically are after a higher quality product. Id refuse to get any other player than the Sony BDP-370 at its price of £99.

Nice find nonetheless OP.

If you use HDMI to play Blu Rays, this will give exactly the same quality as any other Blu Ray player. Only things to consider are upscaling of DVDs (your TV might be able to do this instead), the menus (are they clunky?) and firmware updates (new releases need new firmware to play due to DRM).

EDIT: Ah I see the OP says the menus are good.

Technika is a brand of electronic products produced for Tesco and sold exclusively through Tesco Stores. However more than just one manufacturer makes their range of electrical products.

It might be branded Technika, but this particular Blu Ray player is 100% Samsung.

Have some heat, nice deal

Heat!! Great value ordered!

I Bought one, and can confirm qualty of picture and sound is top notch.
Unit is tiny compared to a PS3. Highly recommended.

Edited by: "Tiswas" 30th Dec 2010

Is this then the first BD player that you can easily change the region of BD discs? I own a lot of USA movies which cannot be played on a standard PAL BD player... heat!

Hot for the price alone but the multi region hack for blu ray sets it apart from just about every other bluray player on the market. Those wanting a branded product I saw a philips 2700 for £57 in my local asda yesterday was posted on here somewhere before.

out of stock online but i saw it instore

Any in derby/notts area? Spoke to ilkeston and alfreton stores, both say they have none...

Just bought one of these, turned it on it says 'HELLO' on player screen and blue 'on' light is constantly flashing but I have no image or sound on my TV.

Anyone suggest what I may be doing wrong, or does it need to be returned ?
