Thanks didn't even know it was broken!

You can use this to pick up the Irish RTE stations along the west coast of England / Wales / Scotland and Isle of Man too.

Would this allow rte channels in england

Depends how close to the west coast you are, If you could receive rte before switch over then you most likely will be able to receive rte digital channels with this box.

would this work in the republic in areas where you could get the UK stations in the past?

Mixed reviews ..reporting no RTE in N Ireland....
See Tesco site..tesco.com/dir…prd

I have two of these boxes and both pickup the RTE channels perfectly, infact better than my Humax box

Definitely Saorview??

Saorview boxes decode Mpeg4, Standard definition freeview boxes or receivers decode Mpeg2, this is why many TVs with built-in freeview tuners can't decode Irish channels, because they are standard definition receivers.

HD Freeview however decode Mpeg4 and Mpeg2 signals therefore there is no reason why this shouldn't pick up RTE. I have a tecknica HD box, but it's a different model to this one and it picks up the saorview signal perfectly

This is a freeview HD box and therefore it can decode Mpeg4 signals, therefore there is no reason why this shouldn't pick up

here is a thread for people who've bought this box, there are some very useful tips for people on both sides of the border there, with regards to the setting up of the box.

I'm not sure why he said that, maybe he didn't realise that the box, when set to auto tune stores the Irish channels in the 800s, or maybe he had a fault with his arial, or possibly he was too far north to receive the saorview signal, but we can only guess

Suffice to say the box is a HD receiver, if you can receive RTE (if you did pre switch-over then you should now) this box will decode the signal

seems to have sold out?

this will do the same job but there's only one available

had 2 of these. bout as good as any budget box. not very

Think you need freesat HD box for RTE in n.ireland.

No although freesat will get you rte 1 and 2 minus football matches and other sporting events which are blocked for copyright reasons.
A Saorsat receiver however may get you the full compliment of Irish channels, rte 1 RTE2 rteJR, rte1+1 rte news tv3 c5, tg4 etc... if you are close enough to a transmitter that is. Again as far as i'm aware there is a difference between freesat and saorsat

You're right now i think about it I think you have to have a sky subscription to pick up rte with the sports blocked, freesat HD as Ashton says won't work so if you're going through a dish you need saorsat

Cheers OP, jumped in and bought one for daughters bedroom. Just wanted a basic box with the option of HD should it be needed, with a choice of scart or hdmi. This fits the bill and for £25 and a 12 month warranty, if its crap and doesn't work OK, then it's going back.
