Good price, but potentially v expensive for an item with effectively no warranty, plus not only is there the potential of being hit for VAT-related import fee (VAT + handling fee = total circa £35) but the price is precariously close to £135 Customs Duty threshold, esp if Customs randomly decide the price is calc'd including currency conversion fees and / or refuse to consider the discount voucher. Difficult decision.

Chris at TechTablets (in the Youtube video at 0:41 youtu.be/4GE…=41 ) says the parcel has a declaration on it for $21 US and there were no taxes, but I have no experience of buying from Gearbest.

Edit: Woops, it's actually from Banggood, but Gearbest do the same.

wouldn't mind getting one but taking risk of getting hit with customs. thought customs was just £18 ?

Seller will habitually state low value on the parcel's external customs sticker, but if customs decide to check contents it would not take a genuius to realise that a tablet is worth more than 21USD. Customs staff are unlikely to spend ages researching how much the item costs, but if they visit Gearbest website they will see non-discounted cost of 141GBP and charge import/customs fees accordingly. Suppose there may be an appeal process, but already it sounds like incredible hassle.

Import fee is VAT plus handling fee (circa £35 for this item), and borderline for £135 threshold for customs duty around additional £3.50

From Europe and you might be talking a deal, from China, nah, too much money to risk with customs a possible extra and warranty written on tissue paper.
aliexpress has these for same price and apparently using postNL

Can anyone help, my Teclast X98 will only boot into Windows.as it is not giving the dual boot start page, any guidance would be appreciated as not sure if there is an obvious reset point.

I don't have this device, but do have a similar item. On my windows desktop, I have an icon for an app that when double-clicked, asks if I want to reboot into Android. Otherwise, you may be required to disable some settings in bios, maybe consider techtablets.com/for…id/

If this was the same price within the UK, I think I would probably have a punt, but from China and the amount of "£'s" involved. Not worth the risk, sorry.

As its over £100 I'd probably take a punt on this when paying by a credit card. If its crap/faulty/ blows up in 4 months then its easy to get your money back. Will ge banned from ordering but then you'd have learnt your lesson about purchasing from dodgy HK/chinese sellers who actively avoid complying with UK law.

Power off, and hold down the vol up button when powering on. (Might be the vol down on yours.)

I have a Teclast Air 3G - best tablet I ever bought. Not the best-specced but far and away the most useful. All for about £150 a year ago.

EDIT: When you do the power-on thing, there's also likely a tickbox somewhere to force it to ask at each boot.

i got a tablet delivered from aliexpress last week, it was marked as though posted from Belgium.

No issues at all, and the tablet is great.
Got my Teclast X98 + almost three months ago. Use it every day and am very happy with it other than the external speaker is naff. Gearbest use Belgium Post. It is sent from Shenzhen via Hong Kong to the Belgian hub and then distributed out to the various EU countries; in our case via Royal Mail. Takes approx 12 working days from order to delivery and the online tracking stops when it arrives in Belgium. Had to stop our postman from trying to force a phone i ordered from Gearbest through our letterbox! Electing for express shipping increases the chance of being stung for import charges. Go for the free slow delivery. Patience is a virtue in this case. Never had an item go missing in 18 months. Also, use PayPal if you can.

IMO Chinese sellers (Gearbest, BangGood and Aliexpress etc) generally aim to provide a good service but are shameless at telling porkies if needs must. Check stock and spec before purchase and do not be fobbed off with excuses. Be polite but firm gets the best results IMO.

Also i can recommend this case from BangGood at £5.32 delivered. CLICK HERE The X98 + has the same dimensions and cut outs as the X98 Air III and is a perfect fit. The case is lightweight, does a good job and the front flap is embossed with a small Teclast logo.

One more thing while i am at it. Chinese sellers usually provide a UK mains plug adapter for free but no harm in asking for one when you order.

Thanks very much topazz and lord_nicol. Always helpful to have some comments from those who have bought these tablets and have experience of Gearbest.

If you don't mind, topazz, I added your comment about Gearbest to the Onda V919 Air CH thread too.
I got the Teclast x98 plus 3G from Bang good, really good dual core tablet.Bang good send it in a polly box which is great,Kodi works a treat on it ;-)
Hi Guys, great tablet battery life a little short but apart from the goodtime. Got mine from Banggood. . They ship to Holland and from there send it out. So no tax wallop.
My only problem is it's not a laminated screen, and loooks pretty.....meh

I would like 9.7 inch Mi Pad

I've got a Xiaomi Mi4 phone,I think they only do a 7" inch tablet at the moment.
Bought an X98 Air III at the end of the year for around US$126 or so for an older friend that needed a tablet - it had great reviews but to be fair, although it was decent enough, it wasn't anywhere near the build quality I was expecting from reading various rave reviews.

It was still the usual "looks wonderful in the pictures but disappointing when you held it" "Chinatab" experience for me - I tend to buy the likes of Lenovo factory refurbs for the same kind of money with a real warranty and customer support.

Many thanks for your advice, problem now sorted, once again I am amazed at the help and knowledge of the HUKD community, and I agree the X98 Air 3G is a great tablet especially in the Windows mode,Edge is a very quick/stable browser for me
Had 2 of these. Battery on both of them died after a few weeks.
I'd never buy another Teclast product due to my issues.

Never tried that particular Chinese seller... arf, arf. But you are correct, it's strange but true. I put it down to cultural differences and the pressure of them operating in a rapidly developing new market. Forewarned is forearmed definitely applies in this instance.

For tracking, try this. This is the company Gearbest use to deal with parcels in UK. Had a couple of parcels using Hermes and this is the only site where the tracking seems to show, even track17.net doesn't work.

Has anyone tried Windows 10 or Android updates on these tablets?
I saw a disclaimer on the site which made the warranty void if os was upgraded.

I appreciate the humour topazz. Emerging or not, there are too many variables (for my liking), to consider Chinese sellers at this point in time. What they need to learn is that if they got their customer service right, they'd DOMINATE electrical device sales throughout the world. It's a VERY small price for them to pay to have what would amount to a monopoly.
the guy kissing the mum on the gearbest website is just so wrong
the way he looks aswell
I buy loads of stuff from Gearbest but would not consider anything that cost over £25. They are not reliable or honest enough for a "major" purchase. The only Chinese firm that I cam across with any real understanding of how we expect a business to run in what I would guess you could call a European style was and is Banggood and they have cocked up orders too. They did at least make sincere efforts to put them right unlike Gearbest who are just full of S@#t quite frankly.
Agree with previous comments, my tablet turned out faulty, gearbest offered a 25% refund on a tablet that cost nearly £100.00 had to get paypal involved before they agreed a refund

Slight misunderstanding. Official updates from manufacturer, Google & MS are fine. Custom ROMs are at risk of invalidating warranty, but really: what warranty?
