I know there has been some bad press about these but but they are perfectly safe imo.

I bought this one in February from Home And Cook for £139.99 delivered using the very same code, delivery took about 4 days. I did have the other colour one which worked fine for 2 years then the paddle broke, I got my money refunded as I bought it from Costco, it was used around 3 times a week.

It comes with a very nice recipe book crammed with recipes not just chips! I know the other colour one can be got for £117.99 from Amazon but it looks soooo much better in black.

This revolutionary new fryer allows you to cook enough chips to feed a family of four with just one spoonful of oil and only 3% fat! This makes it much more economical to run, as well as safer and easier to clean. And not only can it cook chips, but also a whole range of other meals including stir-fried vegetables, meat, fish and even pudding! The black "limited edition" comes with a special cookbook - Taste the World with Actitfry!

Cheaper ]here.

Also, it seems the only difference between this 'limited edition' and the standard one is the colour. Is that right? If so, the non-limited edition is about £20-30 cheaper!

"This revolutionary new fryer allows you to cook enough chips to feed a family of four with just one spoonful of oil"

Simate - So how long does it take to cook enough chips to feed a family of four and are they better then Good Quality Oven Chips?

They did a demo in costco when I was shopping and the chips were gross.
They were bland and soggy, and those were the ones that just came out of the fryer.

I've read reports that these only last about a year and start packing up.....anyone got one?????

Bought one of the normal one of these from Costco for less than £100 over a year ago. Use it at least once a week for chips which taste great and has just enough room for a family of four. Also great for roasters to go with your sunday lunch. Never had any problem with it.

Chips need deep fried cooking in good old fashioned LARD to taste properly :-)
You say they are good but admit yours broke down like most seem to do, and not many places would refund like Costco did.

Well I've been looking to buy one. From what I've read there are a lot of breakdowns (but I get an extra years guarantee with my Credit card so doesn't bother me), BUT the new/updated one (which is the black one I think) has had these break down problems fixed.

If anyone has anything to add please enlighten me, is the one which is £119.99 at currys/comet/argos the updated one? Or is the black one thats been updated?

Also the white one is £119.99 at argos plus £10 voucher and recipe book - offer ends today!

We bought the original one at the Tefal outlet at Macarthur Glen for just £74.99 came in a white box & we have never had any issues with it. we use ours 4 times a week, misses cooks most things in it.

They were on Watchdog, if I remember correctly?

Look out for a deal on these if you buy one!

Just realised there is 5% Top Cash Back available which makes it cheaper. The difference is the colour yes, but also the issues on the standard model are meant to have been resolved. Depends if you like the stylish black or not and want an updated model for the extra few quid.

Oven chips take about 20 minutes, for 4 I'd say 25. Stick good quality oven chips in it and they come out sooooo much better. Homefries are particularly nice as are home made potato wedges, stick a spoonful of any type of oil in a large bowl, add some salt and pepper, chilli powder and some mixed herebs, mix, adds spuds and stir until covered then stick them in the Actifry for 40 mins, awsome!

Yeah it broke down but it was about 2 years old and used quite a lot. I got my moneys worth out of it that's for sure, refund or not.

Couldn't you find a bigger picture? :whistling:

Anyway, no need for a fire extinguisher, as it's made from flame retardant material. There were very few reported at the time.

Tefal says that 221 (0.4%) of the 55,000 Actifry units sold in the UK have been reported to suffer from a faulty fan motor overheating.

They used chips made from rubbish potatoes then, put rubbish in anything and get rubbish out!

The Actifry isn't just about chips though, you can do currys and all sorts in them.

yep - here you go

Watchdog took a brand new Actifry to a product safety testing laboratory … Watchdog took a brand new Actifry to a product safety testing laboratory to find out what went wrong. With our new Actifry, the lab replicated six month's use, in just three days and everything seemed to work fine. However, when the scientists simulated a fan failure - which they say is one of the most common faults in products like this - the Actifry should have been able to cope just fine, but within seconds it was on fire.TÜV Product Service compliance services manager Richard Poate, who tested the Actifry for Watchdog, said: "Anything that emits that degree of smoke and fire could have potential catastrophic effects. This is a fundamental design issue that should have been detected very, very easily. All the safety standards require you to simulate failures like motor failure, fan failure, and how this got past the safety testing is really quite beyond me. In my opinion, there should be a recall."

Thats why I want to buy the black one, but at £140 it's a little expensive considering argos has this for £119.99 with £10 argos voucher as well so overall cost of £110.

There was nothing to address, read my link to the which site on page one. 221 faulty one's out of 55,000 units sold, what's to address?

Sparks001;8300099

Thats what I want to know!

I think these have been addressed in the black version - but not sure about the current white ones being sold in argos/comet/currys etc.

Damn Tefal. Does anyone recommend other machinery that fulfills a similar task? (no the goerge forman stuff it's not all that good)

Tefail admit to 221 in 2008, how many are there now it is 2010?
How many were simply thrown in the bin because people didn't complain, because they wrongly thought it was tough luck after its grantee had ended?
How many were returned to shops that didn't bother returning them to Tefail?

Tefail also said 221 "have been reported to suffer from a faulty fan motor overheating" them catching fire was not because the fan overheated, it was because it failed.

Sorry, but when a product has been proven to catch fire during use, when they can simply have a fan speed sensor to protect the unit from this, then until they actually advertise it is a new improved model, then it's cold for me.

simate;8300165

Buy the black one then

Well it's an extra £30+, would feel very silly if the white one also had these problems addressed!

I think I'm gonna get the white one anyway, it's cheaper.

If people don't report things to retailers as you suggest due to binning them or simply stores not returning products them what is the manufacturer expected to do?

Come on, car manufacturers make cars with problems that don't get recalled, remember the Renault Clio bonnets that would fly open while driving along? Renault denied the claims! whatcar.com/car…478

Planes fall out of the sky and people die, people still fly though don't they.

If you want to see the Watchdog report here's the link bbc.co.uk/blo…tml

The product will not catch fire as it is made from 20 per cent fibreglass reinforced polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) which is flame retardant.

£11 extra or £21 if you buy one from Argos today and get ya £10 voucher (ends today apparently), thereafter £119.99 for the white one from Argos etc or £131 delivered for the black one after cashback.

Strange that it's so cold, it is the cheapest around for the black one after cashback.

I read somewhere that the black model has a larger fan.

"Good Quality Oven Chips?" who make them???

I bought the black model from CostCo last week. It is very different. The paddle is redesigned to have a lock and unlock mechanism which should avoid the broken clips, the actual 'pan' seems stronger, a new filter and I can believe a new fan.
The cookbook is new with loads of recipes for things you'd think it couldn't make.
Don't buy the old one if you can possibly get the new one.

What I mean by good quality is branded, not basics or value or any shops own chips, they're rubbish and use rubbish spuds. McCain are quality and come out lovely in the Actifry.

My old white model had a lock and unlock mechanism, I don't think that's new. The fan is definitely different.

Still not sure why this ended up so cold, it is the cheapest black one around.
