Apologies, Hatfield extra next to homebase and next home
I've got a Phillips Airfryer, but I'm still trying to understand the point. What exactly do these things do that a fan oven doesn't?

Just used mine for the first time tonight. It made some really good homemade chips with very little oil, unlike oven chips they were super crispy!

It takes around half of the time needed to do chips in the oven, for example. And they come out great, I'm very impressed with mine.

Seems to be the 1.5kg one.

Well done to the OP finding a bargain in Hatfield, I have never had any luck there with any of the wild goose chase items and assumed the staff there kept an eye on hukd....
Bargain well worth it! I love mine. Not just good for chips though! You can make loads of things in these, plus it frees extra space up in the oven when cooking for a family. Voted hot
Great piece of kit. Heated up!

Thank you. I love a person with a bit of common sense
Actifry far better than airfryer by phillips, sorry.Love mine !!
Great find, seen one in my local tesco at £89.99 was tempted but holding out.
I read all the reviews on the Tefal Actifry and although it's a fantastic product (THE best air fryer) it was advised to get an extended warranty with this product, as they do not last much longer than the years warranty. From experience, this is true, as over time the intense heat starts to develop hairline cracks in the handle base, and it literally just falls off eventually. I bought mine from Argos and also took out the extended guarantee for 3 years (which I normally never bother with) Good job, as after 14 months the handle DID fall off. Argos replaced it without fuss and I took out another extended guarantee which will cover me, as it WILL develop the same problem again over time.
It's a great product and chips taste fantastic, be it oven chips or fresh potatoes. Just make sure you cover yourself for the future!
Good find but only 1KG, Really after a 1.5KG model
More tut!
These are not fryers, they are mini ovens!
The 1kg actifrys are tiny. The 1.2kg is ok for two people with a good appetite. The 1.5kg is the best. Three decent portions of chips and the food has more room to rotate and cook evenly. It's large though!

I'm also in the "don't get it" camp.... maybe it uses a special kind of hot air to cook food!
My mums one caught fire.

My mums one caught fire.

twice?
Is one of the benefits of these that they use less electricity [to cook a portion or two of oven chips] than a full electric oven? I as because my little one has oven chips with his tea couple of days a week and it seems a monumental waste of leccy to heat up to 200 degrees just for a handful of chips. I wondered if these air fryer products could do the same job significantly cheaper? I guess the savings would have to be fairly hefty to make a £50+ outlay worthwhile, but what do people think?

twice?

Judging by the lack of apostrophe, there is more than one mum involved!!

The Actifry turns chips/potatoes/sausages/whatever so they will come out 100% even. (don't do fish fingers/nuggets, etc, it'll strip the batter off them).
I 'think' the Phillips Airfryer is more like a halogen, where it blasts the food without moving it.

Have had two Actifrys for 4+ years and think they are extremely good. Had to replace 2 paddles and 2 lids on each, bu they were used daily, so no biggie.
