Air fryers are one of the better gadgets around.
Mine gets used loads. Lot quicker and healthier than the oven in some instances.

We use our Actifry at least 6 days a week, one of the most useful accessories we bought was a mesh tray that replaces the stiring paddle, it's used for cooking things that would otherwise get bashed up with the paddle Fish fingers, meat pies, spring rolls etc it also rotates so the food cooks evenly amazon.co.uk/Sna…orr its gone up in price since we bought it but still worth buying. I prefer cooking and frying my own chips but it is sometimes a faff to cut, blanch and then stand over the frying pan making sure the chipsget evenly cooked.Would a fryer like this be easier and also cheaper to run?

Sometimes my kids just want to eat quick Meals, nuggets, sausages, fish fingers, waffles, fish cakes etc I find the actifry is fab for such food not just chips.
I’ve also made homemade scotch eggs in there, I roast sweet potatoes, and whole aubergines in my actifry too, to make sweet potato mash, and aubergine dip.
Mine still going good after 5 years and I use it often. Much more efficient than an oven of its food just for yourself.

I personally think it would. They take 30-40 minutes in the actifry with minimal amount of oil! I have used frylight as I am on slimming world but they don’t seem to get them as crispy. My son has also got one and uses it to cook sausages ietc. Didn’t think I would use it as much as I do tbh. Expensive yes but worthwhile I think!

I would normally say the same, but we got this from Amazon a while back and use it at least a couple of times a week.

I was actually surprised how well it does chips and very similar to the good old chip pan chips from my youth, but with a fraction of the oil.

One of the better, healther food prep re-inventions of the last 25 years IMHO

We just peel the potatoes, cut them into chips and then wash in cold water, dry them and pop into the actifry!

what is the capacity for chips? Would it do 3 portions? And do you just put the spuds in raw? No preboiling or anything (edited)

Agree! Plenty of room for 3 portions of chips. Dry the potatoes first before putting in the actifry and shake them half way through. Lovely chips!

Thank you. I must admit that I do like my chips on the firmer / crispier side though.

I do also cook sausages in the oven as I am rubbish at cooking them evening in a frying pan. Didn't know that you could cook sausages in an air fryer. (edited)

My son personally thinks sausages cook better in the actifry as they cook evenly. As long as you use a little oil in the actifry and cook for 30-40 mins the chips will be crispy!

Maris Piper potatoes. They get fluffy when you boil them and it's the fluffiness that gives the crunch you want. Cut them into fairly chunky sizes.2). Boil them a fair amount first. You want to boil them up so that they're almost falling apart but not quite. Length of time depends on pan size and hob obviously, so you'll have to experiment here. But if you shake them in the pan after you've drained it, you want small amounts of the chip flaking off and onto the pan.3). Pour into bowl, add oil (around 1 - 1.5tbsp per portion), shake bowl to get an even covering, then add the chips to the air fryer. There should be some oil at the bottom of the bowl, make sure that does not go into the air fryer.4). Sprinkle salt/pepper/any other seasonings or spices you want. I put cajun spice and some chilli powder in with mine for a bit of a kick.5). Put on highest temperature (around 200 degrees C) for 20-25 minutes, shake after 10.

Your method of cooking chips wouldn't work in this deals Actifry because it has a paddle that constantly stirs the contents, basically you would end up with a pile of potato crumbs as the boiled chips were bashed to pieces.
We also have a Tower air fryer that you have to manually stir the food so in that your method works well. (edited)

I have one which is used for chips occasionally. I was asked how much it cost yesterday and I thought it was 40 to 60!! (the wife bought it)

not worth £100 although this is a nice saving if you want one (edited)

    Sounds good!,

Did you use a particular recipe and method to make them or just the same as doing them in a regular oldskool DFF or chip pan?

How long are they in for?

Deffo not a cupboard filler. My toastie machine and waffle maker are, but this permanently lives on the worktop and is ace for chips and sausages for the odd morning cob. It’s awesome.

Oven barely gets any use here thanks to this
Tip for chips, prep potatoes (2 large potatoes) way before you need them (peel slice etc.) leave them immersed in cold water for a few hours, rinse off.
Microwave chips without water for 10 mins (800w), then actifry with a spoonful of oil for 20 mins
