Insanely overpriced as I'm sure lots of you will mention, however looking at buying this and found this the cheapest option for this particular one. Suffer madly from lower back pain for last 8yrs and would pay a small fortune to alleviate some of it!!.. Not sure if this is the right option for me, but hey ho!!!

That's for the double.
Chiropractor? For the last 7 years I have been unable to sleep on my back. If I do I can barely stand up. Sleep with feet raised or on side and no lower back problem.

I sleep on my belly :(... Unable to change positions, even during pregnancy!!.. I know, I tried!
I used to suffer from very bad back pain I started sleeping with a pillow under my thighs lifting legs take the weight of the lower back I have also seen triangular leg pillows in Aldi from time to time but I've never tried one might be worth trying it before spending over to Grand on a mattress

Go the doctors and insist on A Mri scan. It could be arthritis either way you can't see inside your body so get some answers, could be they can do nothing, at least you will know
I am sure they have a free 60 day or something like that free trial as well.

Had some Christmas money from family last year and had to spend it or would have fritters it away, bought one of the tempur pillows best £80 I have ever spent. Always said they couldn't be worth it but would spend it again tomorrow
Consider how much people pay for cars that they barely use. Your mattress gets used 6-12 hours a day for 10-15 years. Well work spending on a good one.
My mate had a bad back he bought a firm memory foam and reflex foam mattress cut out a long narrow oblong 90 degrees to his sleeping position about 4 inchs wide for his hip to fit in and now his back is better. Also if he feels tension in the muscles he lays on the floor on a pool ball, and stops any spasms in their tracks. Then ice for 15 mins. Good luck with your back bud.

True. But is it a good one?
Tempur Original 21 was reviewed by Which? and (unusually) they classed it as a 'Don't Buy':
Became severely damaged during our durability tests, hard to turn on it, not good for taller and heavier people
Bought Deluxe version nearly 11 years ago from Furniture Village - best money I have ever spent on anything. I am rather tall with chronic back problems and can sincerely recommend it.
Also had no problems with VAT refund as it is medical equipment for somebody with chronic condition that can be proven-nobody asked for prove, just to fill a form with details and maybe GP address(not too sure on this part ). It applies to quite few conditions, not just bad backs.
Best bed is a water bed, nothing else works so well for the body.

Come with variable levels of 'wobbliness' in much the same vain as firmness levels of standard material mattresses.

Try one if you can and make up your own mind.

Thanks all for info...I suffer from a prolapsed disc confirmed by two mri scans. I also just bought the tempur pillow, not used yet. Looked at so many mattresses and confused now. The price is silly however I would pay it if it meant my quality of life would improve as I'm only in my thirties with three children aged between 7 and 2, so all dependant on me!

I also tried water one but found it very uncomfortable

Ergoflex all the way, very good quality and a world apart from the knock offs you see around for a similar price.

Have you thought about Pilates to strengthen your core. I suffered from sciatica. Spent loads £££ on chiropractor and osteopaths. Someone recommended Pilates tried it and now been pain free past few years fingers crossed.
Same name too

Pilates definitely on my to do list, have heard great reviews about it. Thanks
You could try one of the Mammoth mattresses, not as expensive as Tempur but are very good, they also do pillows which are good.

kind of similar technology

Having suffered years of lower back and shoulder pains so two different issues but both causing sleepless nights, have gone from a soft sided water bed with a "mud" mattress to an electric adjustable bed. By raising both head and feet ends, takes strain off shoulder and weight off lower back. Can get out of bed easily for the first time in a very long time. Bought second hand bed bases from Ebay and brand new mattresses. Saved a fortune that way.

Sorry, to be clear, I wasn't commenting or recommending this particular mattress, just noting that people shouldn't consider a £1000-2000 mattress to be "expensive" if it's substantially better than one a quarter of the price, if it greatly enhances your comfort for 8 hours a day for 10 years.
I know some people hide money under there mattress but in it lol
When I think of memory foam I think of it as being just a great big sponge. I would have thought you could get a real mattress for less.
My physio said that ishould find a mattress that's comfortable for me . She said spending a lot of money was unnecessary as it probably wouldn't make any difference. what has helped is the exercises she gave me and also pilates. It's really painful to get started but if you can stick with it , it's definitely worth it.
I bought out tempur mattress from Gumtree. Brand new. Think it was £400. To help with my sciatica. It's amazing and every morning feel great. Well worth spending extra. Has ours for approx 4 yrs now.

If that comments for me. I bought I think the standard double that was available at the time. Similar to this one.

http://suk.tempur.com/mattresses/original-collection/mattress-21-151366.html?cgid=double-135x190&start=3

Except my one is approx 6 inches thick. Wouldn't change it for the world

(In talalay latex)

There's another company called "John Ryan Contemporary"

But theirs is a dunlop mattress instead. Worth checking out tho!
