I suppose it depends how much data you have going between devices on your own network.
If you have a media server like Plex or XBMC, a backups server, or just transfer files a lot, then the higher speeds will help even if your broadband is relatively slow.

Sorry to hear that. I've got an Echo Dot (3rd Gen) on a secondary node of my MW3 network, and it has no problems.
Good to know about the problem for when I inevitably upgrade my network. Hope you get it sorted.
