It could be smaller considering it’s only 3/8” and has a max of 110nm

368mm long, that’d be pretty much the same as most others, you’ll need that length if you’re torquing up around the 110NM it’s capable of

Yes these are excellent quality but "knocks spots off Snap-on" is a stretch, for example these are painted not chrome plated. I still have my snap-on tools that I bought as an apprentice and I can still get service kits etc for the ratchets 25 years on. Snap-on have a vastly superior support network and the vans will drop you off a replacement at your door if need be.

However the equivalent Snap-on product would be 3-4 times the price so you do pay for the priveledge.

Hot for an excellent product at an excellent price.

Never thought of Teng as an underrated company. Quality stuff
Yep, I've got this, a 5-27nm 3/8" and a 40-210nm 1/2". Excellent quality tools, and although not chrome plated, I prefer the red paint, makes them really stand out.
This Teng is a cracking deal.. Love their stuff
Torque wrenches vary, you can pay little money to silly money in the hundreds.
For me the most important is it is 1/2"drive Reversible, crome vadlium, comes in a case and is at least 18" (410mm) long to get the leverage.and goes up to 210nm (which this doesn't)

This one I could not find the length, but one of the reviews says it is nothing like the photo, and 368 mm long. Another review says it is very stiff to turn.

China makes lots of tools nowadays under different brand names and are much better nowadays just as their phones are.

Length is 368mm according to the Teng spec sheet on their own website.
i had similar to the one in your pic, as you say it may have came out of a Chinese factory with ‘Sealey’ stamped on it. I bought this as it has a good reputation, I store my torque wrenches properly but my ‘Sealey’ one went bad & stripped & snapped a fork pinch bolt which was a £50 repair which I considered cheap by a decent friend with an engineering shop, if I couldn’t repair it that may have cost £800-1000 for a new fork leg.
lesson learned

Can you please reccomend a decent small torque wrench?

Can you please reccomend a decent small torque wrench?

In all honesty you’d need to find the torque range on the bolts of whatever you’re working at to give a drive size & torque range, but 3/8 is a decent start, I’ve bought this & will be looking about for another Teng 3/8 in the 5-25M range.
buy decent kit, you’ll not regret it

Depends on the range you need, jobs at my work range from 0.5nm to 1800nm+.
The lower range being less than a finger and thumb on a screwdriver, the higher range needing significantly more effort!
If you're after a wider range and maybe cover most wheel nuts for about a tenner more.

Are they in need of periodic calibration? If so, what is the cheapest way to maintain them over a long period of time?

Turn them back to zero when you store them,!

Yep, depends on your use case, but i try to stick to 3/8" for compatibility as most of my socket sets are 3/8". The 5-27Nm is a pretty good all rounder it's nice and small too, can be used all around the car and bicycles. But would recommend you buy one that covers the torques you will need.

As Proveright said but for my Teng tools I read that it's best to keep a little tension on the spring so instead of 0 keep the tool at its minimum torque setting in the torque range.

For example, on my 40 - 210Nm, after usage I would return the torque setting to 40Nm before storage.
The "red face scale" is free... and adequate for most folk

For normal home use they should stay near the set range.
Just make sure you wind it off to zero or the minimum value for storage. Also make sure where you are storing it isn’t too hot/cold and is not damp as all of these affect the load produced significantly.
For my job each torque wrench has annual checks and are all checked before each use on a torque analyser.
The Halford’s torque wrenches are great quality and price if you have a trade card.
DO I need this in my life, occasional oil change and filters on both cars. Trying to justify buying it, currently have a 200 pro Halfords set but no torque wrench, don't use torque to put back the oil plug, should I? Also fix my cycle bikes, changing cranks etc which it could come in handy but always done it by feel in the past, hmm...

I have a big Teng torque wrench, and it is fab. A world away from £25 cheap and nasty ones accuracy-wise.
Which one would be most use? 1/2 inch or 3/8 ?

i don’t have anything atm, but want to be able to change my wheels on my Alfa 4C, tempted to buy the bigger one at £47, then buy 1/2 inch fittings
Aldi n lidl do these once a year for less. Also the Bergen ones on ebay are very good, I bought a small 5-25nm to do my bike spark plugs. It's amazing how much less than gorilla tight things need to be when u start torque wrenching!

It's in my garage, can't remember the brand but it's chrome vanadium with 3 years guarantee. Proper quality and was around £25-30 from lidl from what I remember

For changing wheels I bought the 1/2" 40-210Nm which has a length of 46.5cm making it much easier to torque to higher torques as needed by wheel nuts (130Nm for my car).
By comparison don't be mislead by Amazon's photo for the torque wrench on sale here, it's not as long as it looks, it's actually only 36.8cm.

Always been taught not to use adapters on torque wrenches as it can affect the values. There are some things you don't go budget on and a torque wrench is one of them its less of a tool and more of a precision instrument.
Have the 1/4” version of the for over 10 years. Excellent product. Still as good as the day I bought it, other than being much grubbier. Voted hot.
Thanks ordered teng

Yes,

Most oil sumps are aluminium now and it's very easy to strip the threads if you overtighten the sump plug.

Also the plastic housing for the filters are easy to crack.

Norbar do great ones. But ain't cheap

Agree with this, and worth the extra in my opinion, if you can justify it.

If anyone is interested, Norbar don't think it's necessary to wind back the wrench after use if it's used frequently.
