This film may be real 4K but at the end of the day, it's had some serious digital noise reduction (DNR) which makes things look waxy. IMO this transfer was poor for that one reason.
MattyGr5 m ago

Yep, had it on VHS, DVD & blu ray. Not got the 4k yet.

me too, had the tin VHS where you got the 1st and 2nd, then i got the T1000 edition of the film on VHS, the DVD came out got a region 1 copy which actually had a HD version on it as a file but could never get that to play but it had the 3 versions of film on it. Then my multi region player died and only had a region 2 one so got another DVD, then blu-ray and next will be 4k when i get round to upgrading my TV
Actually the greatest film of all time.

Out of interest, how does this compare to the blu-ray?
This is definately a step up from blu-ray. Lots of extra detail and I prefer the digital look.

Arnie always said "I'll be back". With the number of reissues of this movie. He certainly wasn't wrong,

Ok, so I've a PS4 Pro. I know its not a native 4K player, but would I see ANY benefit of this over the bluray I already own? Would this even play in my machine? T2 is one of my favourite films and would probably consider it if there was even some discernible difference.
Thanks in advance...
Terrible picture quality on this one

It would not play in your machine. You need an XBox One S/X or dedicated 4k player to so much as read the disc
Ah. Dang.
Suppose it makes sense, they are a different piece of tech. Thanks for the info.
Got this from itunes , plays excellent on my Apple tv 4k , picture is amazing.
Maybe it's me being old, or maybe it's just nostalgia, but I miss the grainy old VHS movies. I always soften the picture in movie mode on my TV, and slow the picture down to make it more old school.
i saw it at the Science Museum ( London) last week - 70mm print. Absolutely fantastic!!
Pity it's not the director's cut, but they had to do the original from film, so makes sense.

Have you seen it? If so is it quite grainy?

There is no grain sadly, it's night of the living waxworks at times

Actually the greatest film of all time.
Saturday 9.20pm ITV. Keith Lemon and Paddy McGuinness parody of Terminator 2.
would xbox one s play this ok?
The 4K version is said to look much worse than the bluray. I've read this about other 4K upscales.
As someone has previously mentioned, only the theatrical cut is 4K. Very jarring now that I am used to watching the special edition.

It doesn't help when people don't even use the correct name. It's UHD Blu-ray, calling it 4k blu ray or 4k UHD remastered blu ray just confuses people, especially when Sony have sold Blu-rays that were mastered in 4k

Eh? It clearly says 4k on the front of the case...twice. It doesn't say UHD anywhere on the front, I think it's you who is confused.

Yeah that's b****cks mate.
Yes some close ups are a little waxy, but nothing like as bad as people are describing. If your TV is set up correctly then this is easily the best the film has ever looked.

People have short memories. Many of the first Blu Rays were atrocious. Not because of the format, but because studios were looking for a quick buck and upscaling DVDs. The difference here is that in this case, many of the 2k upscales look at the very minimum pretty decent and at least match the Blu Ray. But the "big" difference is HDR. If your TV displays HDR properly it makes a massive difference to the picture quality. Contrast and Colour upgrades are actually more important than resolution upgrades especially when the resolution is pretty decent to start with.

But not all 4k UHD disks are worth paying extra for, just like many older Blu Rays weren't either. Read the many reviews for each disk then get a good one, get a good HDR TV, set it up properly then see stuff that simply can not be seen on the Blu Ray. Or just enjoy your DVD/Blu Ray film because you love the film. It works either way

My mind just exploded into a million HDR coloured pieces.
I know right

There is a definite upgrade in detail, contrast and colour. After all the reviews about it being waxy etc etc, I was very pleasantly surprised as to how good this disk actually looks. In fact it is so much clearer that the T1000 is not quite as effective anymore because you can almost see how the effect is done.

Where do I find how to set up my TV with the best settings? The blacks on mine are terrible - they're kind of in varying rings of darkness and Iook poor.

Depends which TV you have, try AV forums or just Google your TV name for calibration.
