I'm a big advocate for UHD discs, but this is by far the biggest disappointment in my collection. So much digital noise reduction has been applied it makes everyone look like a wax work.

Really.i thought this would be a creme De la crème of 4k.

I completely agree it’s been smoothed out so much it’s impossible to watch without being distracted by the DNR. I wouldn’t waste your cash on this.

Wow! Glad I read the comments first before buying, thanks for the insight. Great price for an UHD. Heat added!

Really.i thought this would be a creme De la crème of 4k.

I've seen reviews that say it looks bad, others say it's ok, and some say excellent. It seems to depend on what you are watching it on.

Maybe on a 75"+ TV or any very large screen this looks bad. Maybe on OLED TVs this looks bad. But on a decent 55" 1000+ nit LED TV this looks stunning. The extra detail is phenomenal. From the marks in Arnold's leather jacket to Linda Hamilton's peach fuzz arms. The extra contrast takes the picture to a whole new level. There is DNR but in my screen it's nowhere as bad as some people say.

Don't let it put you off older Movies on this format though. They are some of the best. Bladerunner, shining, gremlins, die hard, apocalypse now, close encounters all look great.

The DNR on this doesn’t show up so much on bad TVs, which is kinda like saying someone looks pretty fit in a bar after 10 shots of vodka.
Take that person anywhere else when you’re sober and they look like a munter.

Terrible disc. Don’t bother, just bide your time for the inevitable remaster.

That's not what I said. Do you think reviewers from proper review sites have bad TVs? Did you even read the description of the type of TV this looks good on?

Both questions are rhetorical.

On an OLED this looks bad?
Behave.
If a professional disc reviewer isn’t using an OLED or plasma for reviewing purposes... then are they professional?
Doesn’t brightness of a screen hide detail and fade noise?

Just some rhetoric to consider.

First of all I said "Maybe" on OLED this looks bad. Secondly you are assuming that are LED TVs are crap. I wanted to add this last point to my previous post but I assumed that relating positive experiences would help the person guage whether it was worth a purchase. So I didn't want to go down that path.

I watched 2001 the other day, looks absolutely stunning. As does apocalypse now

Whilst I don't like this disc there is no need to talk down someone who does. James Cameron supervised this restoration for 3D and 4K - he obviously likes the look of it and other people will too.

Yes better TVs display a better picture, but in this case it's either the DNR bugs you or or doesn't. Much like Ghostbusters - I love the detail and picture grain, others don't.

Plus as I said, he is assuming that all LED TVs are crap. I'm a bit of an enthusiast so I personally can't take poor quality TVs or discs. As you quite rightly said DNR if it's not excessive does not bother me.
Won't you need a US UHD player for this?

Add Allen to that list. Apocalypse now looks great for what it is. This not back handed praise I just didn't find it stunning. I'm not bothered by film grain but it does make a difference compared to digital films. That's what Cameron was probably trying to achieve, hence the DNR.

Negative. All UHD discs are region free. The accompanying Blu-ray disc however *may* be region locked.

Now who’s assuming?
Plasma tvs......proper blacks and you can watch something moving fast across the screen without getting a headache. Don't know what I'll do if my Panasonic ever goes pop, every visit to the tv corner in Currys brings disappointment unless I'm spending £500+.

Pretty much. I went from Plasma to LED but I got a decent LED. The natural progression from Plasma is of course OLED but unless you want HDR (which is worth it by the way) then wait a little. Mini LED is a stop gap technology but still could be interesting. But the technology we are waiting for is Micro LED which should have the advantages of OLED (best blacks and contrast) and LED (best highlights and colour volume) with few of the downsides.

HDR is great on OLED

Edit: 2019 LG OLED

Love how Cameron distanced himself from Dark Fate and threw Miller under the bus.
Just like I predicted on Mr H and Terminatorfans YouTube channels.
Lost all respect for Caneron as a director and/or producer.
It's taking him that long to do these Avatars I'm not sure they're going to be that groundbreaking when we get them.

HDR is great on OLED Edit: 2019 LG OLED

HDR is great on OLED but I prefer the brighter and better colour volume of LED. Yes OLED has a superior contrast ratio but LEDs are more than good enough, then add bias lighting then there is little difference. Where OLED is really superior (besides the obvious black levels) is with point highlights. So if you are looking at a Star field in space, it can look more spectacular on OLED. I've even seen a matt black dog with lights behind the dog so all you see is the dog highlighted in relief. That looked absolutely stunning on OLED. But overall I prefer LED HDR.

Yes the contrast really makes brighter elements look great. And no blooming!
One of the worst discs on the market by far
