Was looking to buy this the other day on dvd for £13 thanks to andywedge but Amazon have now reduced the Blu-ray version to just £15.47 - Next best is £17.89 @ Sendit

The pressure was really on The Sarah Connor Chronicles right from the start. The first spin-off from the extraordinary Terminator franchise, it picks up after the events of the second film, and finds Lena Headey in the title role, who--along with her 15-year old son, John--sets about trying to save the world from the impending threat of Skynet. Along the way too, they encounter Summer Glau (whom theres a strong chance youll know from Firefly), who steps into the shoes of Cameron, a bodyguard Terminator who helps fight off the many threats they face. Shes some piece of work.
Very deliberately paced, and intricately woven to make sure it safely fits within the Terminator universe, The Sarah Connor Chronicles works a great deal better than youd have any right to expect. Tightly scripted, and with a terrific performance by Headey in the central role, the show packs plenty of action and narrative into the nine episodes of its maiden season, and it certainly whets the appetite for more.

Perhaps the biggest compliment to be paid, though, is that The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a worthy companion and follow-up to the first two Terminator films, and one that genuinely expands and deepens the franchise. Itll be fascinating to see where the show goes next. --Jon Foster

£1.71 per episode of Summer Glau in Hi-Def, how could this not be HOT!

Methos.

In the middle of watching this right now on Blu rented from LoveFilm. Its alot better than I expected and I'm really enjoying it, at that price its a bargain. Hot.

Bought this in December from dvd.co.uk for around the same price but I now see it's gone up to nearly £18 with them. HD quality is very good and considering the DVD version is only a couple of quid less it's well worth getting on BD.

Heat awarded

Yep, amazing show, amazing price. I think it suprised everyone as it looked like it was going to be another attempt to squeeze the terminator franchise for all its worth but its actually really good. Just a heads up that the series is back this Friday after a break for Christmas.

Odd. I thought I'd already seen an episode from the second series just after Christmas.

Maybe it was a repeat.

Either way, does anybody know if the Blu-ray set has any "extras" above those on the DVD set?

Thanks in advance.

it started last week or even the week before as the one last week seemed to jump at least one show

Awesome news that the series is back after the break!

I thought 'The Sarah Conner Chronicles' would be terrible after the shockingly bad Terminator 3, but its actually very, very good! The quality of production is top notch and the story is excellent, each episode has enough plot to satisfy a large chunk of a season on most other TV series. Highly recommended!

As far as I know we're currently half way through season two, they seem to be doing mid season breaks in everything at the moment.

now this is more like it, if a movie or tv series is available on BD then BD wins over DVD.

plus the UK version of BD does have all the extras missing from the DVD version. I think someone said it last year it may be a deliberate ploy by the studio to entice people to buy the BD version over the DVD.

Thanks.

There is a (customer-supplied) 'rear image' on Amazon, but it is not very clear...

(The Zavvi web site used to be good for these kind of images... d'oh!)

(I'm also wondering if it may be worth importing this from the States, in case they get anything additional that we don't on this side of the pond).

BFN,

EDIT:

From Zavvi.co.uk...

Blu-ray:

DVD:

So, I think I answered my own query. The Blu-ray edition does look like it has lots more "Special Features" on offer.

I never thought to look for this Blu-ray in Zavvi. Oh well, I guess Amazon will be getting my money. Pity they always delivery so slowly &/or lose my parcels.

I'll check out AxelMusic &/or MovieTyme in case the US (region free) version a) exists, and b) has anything else on it, first, though.

Thanks again.

BFN,

fp.

The US and UK discs are 100% identical as far as the extra's go, so no need to import. So just get the cheapest. I picked my UK version last year for £12.50, which at the time was cheaper than the DVD version.

In case anybody is interested, there is a region free Blu-ray edition available in the States:

It has the rear image from the UK DVD edition as the front image...

Here is an image of the rear of the Blu-ray cover for "Special Features" comparisons...

Thanks. Just seen that. Also AxelMusic are offering import to the UK, but the rear of the Blu-ray box says distribution is to be restricted to the USA & Canada.

The DVD set is £12.97 at ]The Co-Operative at present.

It's an amazing series and if you can't wait for the Uk to catch up, there are a few sites that you can view the very latest episode!

Agree with the comment about Summer Glau. Although I think Sarah Connor is kinda hot too! lol

It's a shame that Bionic Woman never took off as that was good (it became a victim of the writers' strike and was axed), along with the new Knight Rider series. Altough they should've kept the car simple rather than a multi-changing shape one. KITT will be turning over in his scrap yard!

Great find on BD and I highly recommend it everyone.

The second series has been on a break since Decemeber and will restart this friday. I might be confusing people as i watch the newer epsiodes by downloading them so i guess I'm following the US schedule.

Is this series any good? At £15 for a Blu ray series, I am tempted...:)

I love it and it seems like all of the people who posted in this thread also do but i guess it depends on your taste. Heres a review. The only thing i disagree with in the review is that die hard Terminator fans will understand it more. Thats rubbish if you have an ounce of common sense.

Yes is really is excellent sci-fi tv. In my book the only thing to beat it is Battlestar Galactica, which as yet has no blu-ray release scheduled :-(. You should also bear in mind that the reason this is so cheap it that it is really only half a season. Still for £15 you can't go wrong.

Hmmm... yes,... 392 minutes running time (excluding "Special Features") isn't that long for a full season. IMDB.com states 60 minutes per episode, but they are not that long with credits & breaks.

Also, ]IMDB.com states 9 episodes for Series 1:

Season 1, Episode 1: Pilot / Original Air Date—13 January 2008
Season 1, Episode 2: Gnothi Seauton / Original Air Date—14 January 2008
Season 1, Episode 3: The Turk / Original Air Date—21 January 2008
Season 1, Episode 4: Heavy Metal / Original Air Date—4 February 2008
Season 1, Episode 5: Queen's Gambit / Original Air Date—11 February 2008
Season 1, Episode 6: Dungeons & Dragons / Original Air Date—18 February 2008
Season 1, Episode 7: The Demon Hand / Original Air Date—25 February 2008
Season 1, Episode 8: Vick's Chip / Original Air Date—3 March 2008
Season 1, Episode 9: What He Beheld / Original Air Date—3 March 2008

Are all these episodes included (including the edited & extended versions of #7 "The Demon Hand"), or did you mean 9 episodes is not a particular long season by US TV standards?

22 episodes are listed for Season 2. Season 2, Episode 14: "The Good Wound" is scheduled for airing this Friday (13 February 2009).

The latter. A lot of US shows had a short season. This is because of the writers strike last summer. I imagine that when season 2 of TSCC comes out on it will be nowhere near as cheap as this first season.

Yes, i guess we should be grateful that the US network(s) commissioned the second series rather than dropping it [like "The Bionic Woman"; that, I thought was rubbish apart from the on-screen presence of Michelle Ryan! :)].

She managed to fall on her bionic feet & ended up back across the pond in BBC 1's "Merlin", as well as the upcoming (first of the new season of) Doctor Who episode "Planet of the Dead", though. This 'Who episode is the first of the franchise to be filmed in HDTV format.

(If only she'd be considered for a full-time Doctor Who assistant role...)
