thanks bought

Looks like a good deal to me.

Heat added.

If you really must have a new bike and this is your budget I guess it's possible to get worse ones (the ones with full suspension!).
But bare in mind this bike is heavy (I'm 6'1" and my bike - which cost me £60 - is 3kg lighter than this!) and the brakes and gears won't be great.

Did you bought it new for £60?

is this for boys? my DS (8 yo) need new bike. Seem quite a reduction compared to retail price.

No, that's why I said it's OK(ish) if you must buy a new bike.
My son's bike cost £45 refurbished from a local charity (it's a much better bike than this and I'll probably get my money back when he grows out of it).
My Trek cost £60 from ebay (and the same charity fixed the gears for £10).

You can't get a decent new kids bike this size for much less than £150. So the options are; buy something knowing it's not really any good, buy secondhand or spend more.

It's like trying to buy a new car for £4,000 - cars just aren't that cheap for a reason.

I realise that doesn't help people with a limited budget who need a new bike for Xmas but it's important to know what you're buying. The claimed RRP of £140 is utter nonsense - proper bike dealers will sell you a real bike with an aluminium frame (weighing about 11kg) and working gears & brakes for that sort of money.

What arthur said.

I was wondering the same, it says girls in description, but I guess it's just the pink stickers making it a girls bike.

The lower top tube suggests it's intended as a girls' bike; the boys version has a different frame shape (but is out of stock).

Ive bought a bike from Tesco before, you could not change the gears yourself, let alone a kid. I had to take them off and put revoshifts on, bike was heavier than my adult bike, but was cheap i guess.

The wheels comes in mid cycle. You get what you pay for.

When I was a kid I had a raleigh grifter. It had 3 crappy gears that always broke and weighed about 16kg. I loved it.

Yeah you can spend a fortune pampering your little darling with a namby pamby aluminium frame million geared bike if you want, but back in the day all bikes were heavy and unreliable but we just got on with it.

When I was a kid I had an Amiga 500 which I loved. Would you give up your namby pamby PS4 or Xbox to go back to the good old Amiga and "just get on with it"? Technology moves on and 2nd hand Islabikes can be bought for £150. Then you can use it for 2 years and sell it for £120. Or you can buy a piece of junk "Terrain" bike, watch your child struggle to ride for 2 years and then donate it to some landfill site.

I wondered how long it would be before the islabike brigade would come along (_;)

Firstly, a decent second hand 20" Islabike would cost £200+ - almost four times the cost of this deal, and almost certainly outside the budget of anyone who is looking at this Tesco bike. When will the islabike snobs comprehend that suggesting £200 second hand bikes to someone on a tight budget is a complete waste of time? You may as well be telling people to buy a Bentley instead of a Vauxhall.

Secondly, my point was not that technology hasn't moved on - I accept that. I just don't accept that technology has moved on to the point that only the best will do, and anything else is not fit for purpose.

Cheap bikes have always existed, they've always been pretty terrible, but they will continue to sell because they do a job. For my 8 year old, who only rides a bike for a few mins at a time to the local park, etc.. there is no need to worry about much other than "has it got two wheels and a handle bar?".

If you look on ebay you will see that they go for £120 to £220. If you are patient, you can get one for £120-150. It's right there in black and white - go to ebay completed listings. Therefore your argument is invalid but you can try again if you wish.

Boys black version is now £65 on their eBay site using ArthurDent1's link !!??

I'm not really interested in how much they have previously sold for. Right now (i.e at the time of this deal) there are no 20" islabikes available on eBay with a BIN price less than £200 - and auctions are ending up at least £150.

Even so, you're suggesting my argument is invalid because you might be lucky to get one for almost three times the cost of this deal, instead of four times as much? Ok fella (_;)

err... sold today for £120 buy-it-now:

ebay.co.uk/itm…252

Plenty sold for under £150 this month:

ebay.co.uk/sch…=nc

You don't like Islabike? Well there are always Felt bikes or Frog bikes. This Felt bike is £100 and top quality.

ebay.co.uk/itm…837

And once again, my point is that owning these bikes cost you about £30-40 (maintenance cost and perhaps small loss on re-sale). That is cheaper than £55 on a your landfill bike. So stop going on about "three times as much" because basic mathematics proves you are wrong.
