Tesco 12 V Air Compressor Just £1.74!!! Instore Only - BARGAIN - Looks Like It Is National

Found 18th Oct 2012
Just been into my local Tesco Metro in Macclesfield and noticed they have a shelf full of these air compressors for the silly price of £1.74.

These come with adaptors for air beds, footballs and stuff. They plug into your cigarette lighter socket.

Cheap enough to keep one in the boot of your car at this price.

Still showing at £5.23 online with £1.74 off - think someone has plugged the wrong price in!

Hello Mr. Negative! It is £1.74! I wouldn't care how noisy it was for that price!

My husband has one of these already and paid £12 at Tesco! It is brilliant, so useful for tyres and blow up beds.
I just went on Tesco Direct and it is on offer, and it says SAVE £1.74, so something must have gone wrong and they have priced it at £1.74!
Doubt it is at other Tesco stores, and Macclesfield is too far away!
great just what i need for spraying my car bonnet.... i was gonna get one in machine mart loads cheaper
These are pretty crap folks - haven't voted but I had one I bought at full price and left it back because the PSI gauge was miles out. The gauge was out by out 20psi. I would consider that dangerous as you could over inflate a tyre, and cause a blowout. Also the tube is too short to inflate the tyre if the valve is not at the bottom of the tyre when parked. Wouldn't use this as my main compressor.

Same problem with the ones I bought for £5 years ago. Fine for just blowing something up, but need an additional gauge to check, so don't bother using them.

But if it's crap it's crap, even if they give it away.
Had these last year in my local, next to single air beds for only £1 Bargain!

paid 2,97 for this a week or two ago, yes it's slow...but faster than queuing behind about 6 people at the garage.
Yes its slow and noisy, yes, ignore the gauge, it's useless but I've 5 cars at home and it's a damn sight better than doing it at the garage or using a foot pump. Bargain. Have some warmth.
These types of pumps are designed to inflate items which are pressurised, such as car / bike tyres, and recreational items such as footballs etc. I tried to use a similar pump a few years ago to pump up an air bed when camping, but it is clearly not designed for that!!. Not only do they take an extremely long time to get the slightest bit of air in, but they overheat when used for more than a few minutes at a time, and are therefore not suitable for airbeds, as they get so hot that they become a fire risk when used for that purpose.
Must be national. I just got one at our local Tesco which is hundreds of miles from Macclesfield.

Thanks for that 0762 - amended the title accordingly. Just had to nip back to pick one up for a colleague and there was only two left - apparently the staff have bought them up!!

It is good to see a balanced set of comments on this. I bought one of these a few years ago and it is still going strong. Have used it to pump up bike tryes, footballs and the odd car tyre. Whilst some are saying the guage is out I can't say I have noticed. It always seems to be spot on with mine although the needle does jump when it is working. Just recently my Mum had a slow puncture in her trye. This inflated it enough to drive on so she could get to the garage - so for that alone I reckon £1.74 was worth it for another spare for her car.

Bought one for £6 about 6 months ago.

Its ok for a quick tyre check and for bike tyres, but it really is very noisy, very slow, needs holding down as it bounces all over the place, and the gauge can only be read when its not working as the needle jumps +/- 5psi.

I think id rather have spent £20 on a better one, but ive got it now so will stick with it.

Really cannot complain at £1.74 though.

Cheap if you don't imagine it will be more than a rubbish air compressor.

OK for bike tyres etc but rubbish if you want it to inflate car tyres to a fairly precise pressure.

I imagine a lot of people returned these as completely useless when they paid a higher price which is why they are being delisted.

Strangely there does seem to be a lot of rubbish around in the cheap air compressor segment.

We run a couple of cars out at our place in the sun and I thought it would be a good idea to get one of these air compressors that work off the cig socket.

The first couple turned out to be completely rubbish, one was impossible to work out how to start it and another sort of blew up.

Finally got one that actually worked but gauge is ess aitch one cee.

An identical looking item OOS at Tesco website suggests it is suitable for cars on the basis there are two references to "vehicle", one of which mentions the vehicle having a 12V socket:
