I picked up one of these this evening and cooked it when I got home. It wasn't the best bit of rib I have had but good value for under £4 per lb.

The rack of lamb is also £8 per kg. I picked up a few of those too, for the weekend.
Might treat myself to some
Very tempting, might try and grab some. Thanks
Tesco beef, in my experience, is average at best, I just don't buy it there anymore. It may be cheap but I doubt it is good Value.
Not bad,got a nice piece last Christmas which iirc was £7kg

Forerib of beef is one of the tastiest roasting joints, especially if its got a nice layer of fat and has been trimmed(which means the chine bone has been removed just leaving the back ribs in place.)

I agree, much better than rump, topside and silverside.
Great deal.
That is cheaper than their mince this week.
There mince is averaging 9 quid a kilo this week !!!, or 6.66 on a three for a tenner deal but its the 20% fat mince this week.
A few weeks back the leaner 12% fat mince in larger packs was 3 for a tenner.

Cheaper to buy braising or stewing steak at butchers counter and mince it yourself.
Love beef rib it's amazing. We have it every Christmas Eve.
Good present for the 3 year old to open on Christmas morning!
Thanks. Fore rib on the bone in my view is the best cut of beef there is for roasting. Not sure if this offer is for boneless or not. If you want better/hung, then you'll probably have to pay £23/kg at M&s or the village butchers. Very hot oven for a short time to get it crispy blackened fat on the outside and bloody in the middle. Think I'll dig up a horseraddish root and nip to Tescos!
It makes fantastic gravy too.

If you put some red onion underneath the beef before popping it into the oven and make the gravy with this and the juices. Thick dark gravy. Yum!
Don't bother with Tesco beef it's like eating old boots!
What is Tesco lamb like as beef not getting good write up? Am a sainsburys shopper so comparison with there would be good.

i agree there beef is tasteless also the rump steak stay away from it buy from your local butcher
Lamb is fine at Tesco as good as anywhere. Pork is good too if not the best in a supermarket, especially the vacuum packed shoulder and leg roasts. The beef is just tasteless and tough everytime I get it at Tesco.
Great cut for celebration dinners.
I roast mine on a bed of carrots, celery, garlic and shallots after seasoning the joint with salt pepper and fresh grated ginger (trust me it works).
When your beef has finished cooking (and its resting), throw a couple of table spoons of flour into the pan (with the veg and meat juice), put the heat on and cook out the flour for a bit whilst stirring constantly. Add a little red wine to help deglaze your pan - once you have a smooth paste covering your veg, add a little good quality beef stock and red wine to taste. Strain once you have your desired consistency to remove veg etc. (double cream like is good). You are left with a delicious gravy.
Heat added btw although, your local butcher will do a much better tasting piece for similar cost.
Oh. Make sure you get 3 ribs worth or more- otherwise its just a thick steak..:-p

Forgot for a while that this is a Tesco-hating website!

Pays your money etc. My local butchers is around three times the price of Tescos, but then again it's always hung and always very good. If I want something a bit special and not feeling particularly tight that day, then I'd buy from him. Tescos meat almost always OK, amybe it's down to the particular supermarket. I no longer buy meat from Asda after too many crap meat experiences. I find Waitrose meat not really any better than Tescos, except it's more expensive. M&S always really good, but again much more expensive.

i like morrissons meat as opposed to tesco although like someone said there lamb and pork is good (tesco)
i dont think this is a tesco hating site. but as mentioned there beef aint up to much

if people dislike tesco its down to there many phantom offers or cockups they make on there site.
personally i think tesco is more greedy for profits than most supermarkets.
now they advertising half price meats which means they kept the prices high for a period in order to bring" massive savings " to its customers
yes tesco is a buisiness and in business to make a profit like most supermarkets but if they can reduce there meat by 50% shows the profits being made
people are more savvy in these hard economic times and are not stupid when it comes to spending there hard earned £££££,s
look at aldi my local aldi is continously busy yet tesco only 10 minutes away is a lot. lot less busy
give people real deals and real value. Aldi are doing this. Customers are loyal to there wallets/purses not to any large supermarket chain.

I asked at my Local Tesco's and they said they would not get any Rib of Beef in until 2 weeks before Xmas, why. My local Tesco's is Jarmans Field Hemel Hempstead.
