I bought one of these on the last offer at £10, but I'd have to say, if you can afford a bit more buy something else. There is no mechanism to raise the basket before opening the lid so it can still spit oil on you. Also it makes a puddle of water on the work counter from the steam condensing and running down the outside. Worth a tenner only I'd say.

What do people deep fry these days, I oven everything?

A good old Mars Bar.

There are some things like Japanese katsu and tempura that I like to deep fry. Really can't get the same effect by other cooking methods, and I'm not sure these new actifry machines are up to the job.

I think for something so potentially dangerous you want to be spending more than a tenner - well you want to be getting more than a tenner's worth of components anyway.

Not voted.

any idea as to kw of this, as some take ages to cook from frozen.

If Tesco sells katsu curry ready meals, I'd say they are pretty mainstream foods

I oven cook most things, but you cannot beat home made chips done in the deep fat fryer - only once in a while though obviously, ha ha

Doubt this is much different to one costing twice or three times more.

Same here. I thought this would be as hot as the surface of Sun for a tenner lens!!

got one of these recently, does the job. Lid can get stuck on it sometimes though

haha so did i at first!

I bought one of these last time - not good! hen you try to empty the oil it pours down the side. Also Very cheap and plastic and the basket is actually very small for the oil capacity. Pay a bit more for a decent fryer if you can.

At a first glance I thought this was a camera lense!

Perfect for melting wax in - save me scavenging from the local skip :o)

I use this with my Cannon. It fries other cameras explosively.

Cheers just threw out the old one!!

Just what every council house needs, now lets pop down too iceland in me trackies and airmax for some quality fried junk funk.

bought one last time this deal was posted within the month, had a water leek that broke the cooker and this was the only way to make hot food, great value for the price, heats up quickly, the basket helps it cook evenly, doesn't leave food greasy and the handle clips into place as does the lid so isn't cumbersome in the kitchen.

Picked mine up today, did a fantastic job frying up some chicken! ... and a few mars bars, guilty. Had no problems whatsoever, but I have only had a chance to use it once thus fur. For the basics, its well worth a tenner - if you've got a few more pennies in your pocket then this may not be the best choice.

I do not eat fried food, however occasionally make chips for my boys, I just use an old saucepan tho, but voted hot - sounds cheap, maybe too cheap?!

Use the grill....it won't kill you in the long run!

Glad I'm not actually tempted by this offer.
I stopped eating fried and deep fried food 3 Months ago (as well as a few other unhealthy snacks), and my weight has dropped a staggering amount.

Still voted hot, as it is a bargain for those that want to die young .

How do you know what people eat every day?
And would you eat deep fried food every day anyway?

voted hot. because i like chips like they supposed to taste, espec with added dripping, mmm. not tastless oven or bloody actifry, which taste nothing like a proper chip. ppl that use oven chips are just lazy.

It is not a question of whether you should deep fry, fry or oven. It's a question of whether the item works well. I can tell you it works, but NOT WELL! There have been problems with the lid, if you read other reviews, and I, along with other people, have had the top glass cracking and breaking, as have other people. Ok, it's cheap, but could be unsafe and I am writing to complain to Tesco about this. Health and Safety does not rule supreme here!
