Certainly sounds like a bargain, yes a no name but a lot of TV for the price, if you want a budget range.

Just cant help thinking...whats the catch?

is this 1080p?

moonbeam29;2512621

is this 1080p?

lol

It does seem a pretty good set for the price. If you bear the performance limitations in mind and want a cheap large screen TV, I haven't seen anything around to better it.

Cue people wibbling on about sets that cost £200-£300 more being better:p

No pc input.

Thinking more about my Xbox 360 as I run that through VGA for HD-DVD's.

Also, my DVD home theatre and PS3 would use up the HDMI sockets.

720p is fine on a 42". Even 720p/1080i on a 50" with some limitations.

Run your 360 via component - works great:thumbsup:

Doesn't say it has component but i'd be suprised if it didnt.

Do you really work in Tesco? Or have you had a bad experience that you wish to spread propaganda? Technika is a brand that Tesco apply to various OEM products made from sources all over the World.

First there was the idiot in an earlier post who lied about Philips TVs (claiming to be a TV engineer abd having worked on Philips TVs) then we have more lies here.

It is possible to convert the analogue signals from SCART to a digital signal of HDMI. The way to do it is via a SCART to VGA converter box (which is essentially quite simple but requires reconnection of pins and providing HSync and VSync signals for VGA). The difficult bit is a converter from analogue VGA to a digital signal (those DVI-I to VGA cables do not work as they map pins from analogue output of a DVI-I connector to a VGA cable). Converter boxes with complicated electronics can be bought which provides the second stage of the process to allow VGA to be converted to HDMI or DVI. This is very expensive.

People have mentioned PC input. Yes the HDMI converter can be used but be aware that cheaper TVs will overscan the picture. On this model of TV you will almost certainly experience parts of the picture being clipped (this means you miss the top, bottom, left and right edges).

Im glad you gave your opinion without any basis. I can assure you that after having tested many size screens that 1080p compared to 720p on a 42" screen is barely noticeable. Even on a 50" screen its hard to tell the difference sometimes. Just my opinion but based on what ive seen.:p

my mum has a 42'' HD TV, and i played a spider-man bluray on it and it looked awesome - cost her a bit more though as her tv is a good make.

thanks for this with my staff discount its cost £346.98 delivered great deal very happy.

It isn't an issue with copying. The resolution has nothing to do with copy protection - it's HDCP encryption in the HD film that is the main form of protection although most HD DVDs are not encrypted and therefore 576p output can be just as easily copied as 720p output.

I suspect that the XBox is outputting HD at 60 Hz and the TV does not accept a 1080i signal at the higher refresh rate over a component input and switches to 576p. The TV may accept 1080i at a 50 Hz refresh rate but as the XBox is outputting a refresh rate higher than the TV may cope then the TV is switching to a resolution in which it can handle the input source. I believe this is the case but maybe people with TVs capable of 1080i at 60 Hz can correct me.

Arcade's have HDMI too.

If quality isn't an issue, then bargain! But who buying a TV would consider quality NOT being an issue...even at £250 I wouldn't touch this, cheap branded LCD's almost always have dire picture quality compared to the old CRT screens, not to mention Plasma's. If you have a high diet of HD source then the extra res may go some way to helping but if it's mainly standard def, you'd be better off with a good (jvc, panasonic, etc) 32" CRT screen, which can be had for under £300 now.

For standard definition I find our 32" Panny CRT in many respects even better than our 42" Panasonic plasma! Due to less noticable blocky artifacts and fuzzy edges because no upscaling is needed, helped also by its smaller size.

So BE WARNED! xD

newer xbox have hdmi

older one dont

ive got an older one

but great price

They all upscale standard definition! That's how a PAL resolution display can be shown on a 1366x768 display.

You are correct in that Panasonic 32 inch displays and indeed, their larger displays, provide a good picture but the reason isn't anything regarding upscaling not being applied. It upscales like other TVs but also provides pre processing to the picture. Algorithms such as linear interpolation for edge detection and other forms of image processing are applied to predict missing pixels in order to reduce the blockiness of the picture. Cheap TVs do not apply pre processing (or post processing - it depends on the processor in the TV) and simply upscales with no image processing or deinterlacing. This is what results in the blockiness of the picture for standard resolution on TVs.

I do agree with you to some extent, but this is subjective, in that a good quality 32 inch TV gives a much better standard resolution picture than the substandard 42 inch ones that are sold cheap. However, for HD content it is not so clear cut and this is all dependent on the user requirements for the TV. Evenness of backlighting, quality of black levels and banding will come into play when determining the quality of an LCD picture.

When I was referring to lies it was an inference to your statement that Technika is made by Tesco. It's nothing of the sort, I'm afraid. Yes, the pictures on these TVs are poor (for those who know what to look for) but I can't comment on their reliability.
