I'm guessing the deli counter had the wrong label on the meat as its £8 per kg for Tesco Deli Counter Beef Ribeye (not finest)
anyone else confirm?
I got 2 large rump steaks for £3 last night at Tesco these were on half price special offer.
Brown and smelly?
Ribeye rocks, its by far the best cut of beef imho
Under no circumstances could Tesco meat ever be described as finest. Waitrose, possibly, but Tesco, never. Been let down by it so many times - but not any more.
Got to agree, always dissapointed by Tesco and even worse are Sainsbury's Beef who are by far the worst ive found. Morrisons is far better but nothing beats a proper butcher.... my local charged £ 43 a kilo for fillet and £ 28 for sirloin - they are now out of business unfortunately
yeah from ta counter not buying from any supermarket counter again after i smelt bleach on fish
i even caught staff using flash on the glass the meat was removed but what else do they use i prefer vacuum packed or local butchers

like so many other things decent cuts of beef have effectively become only for the rich, how any can afford to pay £43 a kilo is beyond me
I bought 8 of these steaks in Seacroft Leeds they were delicious.

Glad to see meat-snobbery alive and well in this thread.

No doubt you also only drink certain grossly-overpriced malt whiskies, wines and coffees!
Best supermarket meat for me is M&S. Yes you may pay twice as much but its worth it for something 10 times nicer than the other supermarkets.
I have stopped eating supermarket meat almost completely ( apart from Asda Lincoln sausage ) i buy steak now and again from Asda for stew but i wouldnt eat meat from Tesco or Morrisons again ( ok i would if it was free but its not) absolutely vile , the last Morrisons pork joint we got i poured away more fat than there was meat

not surprised they are out of business at those prices
Cheaper and better quality from the local market butchers.
Wow Thanks OP this is my Fav
I bought loads of rib eye from tesco last time they had an offer and thoroughly enjoyed every piece... I got 10 joints at £4 a joint last xmas when my local Tesco first opened ..... shame I cant get it at that price again, we ate it more as steaks than as a joint. Might go to my local 1 and see if they have any at this price ... heat added

£20 per kg! oO
The best steaks I know of for the price is Costco. I know everyone doesn't have a membership but considering how it works most people could one or know someone that can get one. These steaks are very good and I'm very picky.
Got some today, they look very nice nom nom, thanks OP

Morrisons meat the worst in the world

I;m guessing you have never had asda meat - truly appalling stuff.
I prefer Asda over Morrisons , from someone who used to supply meat to ALL the supermarkets ill stick to the butchers, Morrisons love the cheap green meat it looks so nice covered in chinese flavouring.

How much was in a pack ?
none left at our tesco today, said he sold out everyday mid morning, was disappointed. Just got some nice bits of rump tho at £6 per kg
Hot deal....have some heat
Just had mine for tea, fantastic very nice wish i got some more now
Anyone know how long the ops original deal goes for?
Would love to know the final day!
Thanx in advance
We just had ours (rump steak) for tea aswell. It was really nice and tender. Wish I had bought more.
I puchased two of these steaks sat, then returned to get more on sunday, the butcher was very honest by saying they were not of the finest range quality, but they were delicious.
Thanks to the OP. I picked up two huge steaks, the type that'd be £18 or so each in a pub (with the addition of a couple of onion rings and some oven chips). £6 for two.

Bargain!
EXcellent deal! The food snobs who think their local butchers is better value can kiss my rump! (or my ribeye if they prefer)
Just got 4 thick ribeye steaks from Hanley Tesco £8.63 and they look fantastic , can't honestly complain about Tesco's meat , i think half the problem with meat is in the way it is cooked at home ..
but each to their own i guess ....
I can't find anything on Tesco website, and have just rung my local store, and was told that there is nothing on their website!
got a couple of ribeyes from Havant Tesco.
Gorgeous!
They had a small pack of pak choi stir fry half price - never had it before and it went so well with the steak.
cheers

Steak is cheaper than this in almost all supermarkets. IMHO rib eye is best, followed by sirloin and rump. Just in case any reader doesn't know, these steaks are best fried on a very hot skillet for about 2 to 3 minutes each side (depending on thickness and preference - rare to well done), or, of course, grilled or barbecued quickly.
