Subsidised as usual by those "hated English" under the patently unfair Barnet Formula. en.wikipedia.org/wik…ula

Money spent by the government per capita.

* England £7,121
* Scotland £8,623
* Wales £8,139
* Northern Ireland £9,385

Gotta love devolution right?

Be a bit wary, My brother in-law had an eye test in tesco and they told him he needed glasses, after wearing them for two weeks he had really bad headaches. He then went to spec savers and they told him he didnt need glasses and his eyesight was perfect.

Its always better to try to go to a good optometrist for your eye test, not some supermarket, although I must say that I am sure the Tesco Opticians are qualified optometrists (but might have graduated with a third class degree :-D)

I can recommend waiting for a Dolland & Aitchison offer, they do it several times a year where they offer free eye sight tests (and even give you supermarket points I believe). However, their glasses and contacts are horrendously expensive, so you should go there for the eye test with a view of going somewhere else to get your glasses.

London £8,404 - 114%

Londoners eh!

That London number should be compared to how much taxes Londoners have to pay, which I reckon is more than half the national average after taking into account congestion charge, tube, and higher council taxes

all optometrists are qualified!!! they need tyo be to work-after doing a 3 yr uni course they do 1yr pre reg supervised.so maybe your bro in law had an optom with an off day. most of these places will use locums- who will do days in specsavers, boots, tesco d&a etc

its the same everywhere really. also one good thing is if they get your number incorrect and you purchase lenses elsewhere based on it and you go back there, they have to give you a retest and if that number is different they have to pay for your new lenses..... Had this happen once due to a rubbish optometrist....

Quoted £27.50 for an eye test the other day. Makes this worthwhile IF they do it correctly.
