So they know it's expensive for families at this time of year... So why …So they know it's expensive for families at this time of year... So why not just give £5 off a £60 shop? Not all families have a car and not all use petrol/diesel.Let's face it they just want you to spend £120+ with them.

Whatever they offer the Tesco haters will always have negative comments, at the end of the day this is a good deal. It's like criticising the 25% off wine deal because not everybody drinks wine. Hot from me, thanks.

Two things
Tesco are increasing fuel prices over the next week so it's not a great saving.

If you buy a DVD player or something, get the discount and then return it.
Good deal but petrol should already have dropped in price given oil markets have dropped significantly in July

Rarely spend £60 in one go in Tesco anymore, we tend to do smaller shops and top up shops more often , around different stores these days, but a good deal for those that spend £60 or more in one go in Tesco.

They don’t don’t buy wholesale real time. The price is when they agreed a forward contract
Thanks OP. Every little helps
normal car tank is up to 50 litres. So it's equivalent to £5.00 return for £60.00 purchase.
Not that good a deal.

Yes. That's why cynical marketing techniques, which try to make you believe they are doing "families" a favour, backfire on me. Unless you have the time to play the system by buying and returning an item in order to obtain the £5 ish discount. Plus if you are a family and you inevitably take the kids shopping with you (as it's the expensive holiday time), you are most likely to spend more when they are with you... My advice is shop online and take the kids to a local park if you want to save even more money.

I don't get it, should it be corporate responsibility to deal with our family dynamics?

That's what they say when prices go down but not when it immediately goes up when market prices go up. Same for the rip off big 6 gas companies British Gas, Eon etc
Anyone know whether it’s £60 before or after vouchers? I have Tesco Clubcard £9 off £60 to use.

Well you could spend £60 at Tesco and get nothing, I do majority of my shop at Tesco tbh anyway so it’s a bit extra in my eyes.

Not anymore, there's a new way of processing discount, where it isn't treated as a tender type, meaning you'd need to spend £66.67 to get the voucher (£60 after discount)

£5 off? Average we fill 15-20 litres. Which is £1.5 to £2 savings.

so oil magically turns into petrol which magically arrives at the unmanned petrol station.....there are costs involved throughout the process and these have a bearing on the price we pay

The way it worked when I used to be a Tesco employee, was that the vouchers applied as money paid, so if you had a £60 shop and paid £10 in vouchers, it would count for offers on spends of £60.

It may have changed since.
