Tesco International Calling Card, FREE £1 credit with android/iOS app

Found 6th Feb 2013
+£1 FREE credit so you can get started straight away
+No connection fee* (calls made via App only)
+Contacts appear in the app so you can dial straight away – no need to manually enter the number you are calling
Check your balance and destination rates

Ordinarily it calls a 0208 access number so you will need to have inclusive minutes, to landlines.

But can 'text me my pin' and use the 0800 access number to us the free credit via land line: 0800 097 2468.

Calls cost 1p more via 0800 access number, but that way it is technically TOTALLY free, if that matters to you.

Need to activate the app via a uk mobile number, I think they send a code via text etc,...

But hey it is free credit!

Posted recently, but I'm really enjoying mine and the call quality is premium, so here's some heat again. Good reminder for those who missed it the last time around!
Thanks, I missed it being listed last time. The app added credit after adding my number and creating a new calling card. Thanks!

Personally I use this site voipratetracker.com/ to find the cheapest rate to the country I call...so for South Africa, 0p per minute with RYNGA, costs £10 for 90 days free calls and still get the credit.
and can use either Voip app, pc or 0208 number...and via free weekend calls on my landline.

However, the free calls are restricted, usually find i can make 2 x 1hr calls before the charge at 2.5p per minute. But still the cheapest way to make regular calls.

Might give that a try, though very few destinations are free.
But the reason I started using the tesco cards and now the app, is because those other phoning cards I tried weren't clear about the charges, the credit just seamed to disappear and the call quality usually was poor. I must have tried at least a few dozen different cards, new ones pop up everyday, and some just stopped working without notice.
Thanks op, heat added. Surprised it can be used when abroad to phone back to the UK. Might give this a try this summer. Usually buy a 6 Euro Telefonica phone card.

How do I call back to the UK whilst overseas?

You can use our service from 7 other countries outside the UK. These are Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Spain. Simply call the local Overseas Access Number from that country to access the service. Not only can you call back to the UK from those countries but you can call anywhere in the world.

Don't think there is an access number for Hong Kong. Wouldn't Skype work if you have internet?
it does need active 3g or wifi connection..

not sure if Data is being used only to check balance ...
I use it only thing I don't like is 90 day expiry date
how does this work exactly? what does the app do? do you make calls through the app?

if i just wanted to use the £1 credit without paying any more, how would i do it? need to make a call to the USA, so this could make it free

Normally you have to buy the card instore, the app generates a card pin number. And if you call via the app it saves you having to dial the long pin.

Just use up the pound and then uninstall I guess. Calling through the app is cheaper, so the one pound will give you more minutes compared to 0800.

thanks for that. may seem a silly question, but i have an android tablet with no SIM card, so I can't dial through the app, is that right? i'll have to use the 0800 in that case.

app needs to place a standard call to an 0208 number.
When you install it will ask you for a mobile number, doesnt have to be the same one as your android phone. It will text the pin to the phone number you provided. Call the access number and follow the prompts.
Thanks :-) great app
Never heard of this, thanks.
Thanks OP
Better prise comparion on voip-comparison.com. Rates updatet daily.
Does the app work if inly the calling person has the app on their phone amd othe rperson doesn't?
