Always wondered why these are callled jerry cans.
"13 For storage in plastic container without a licence the containers must:

a) be constructed of suitable materials;

b) have maximum capacity of five litres;

c) be designed and constructed properly;

d) have appropriate markings or labels;"

Get them quick, before someone at 'Elf & Safety" notices and Tesco removes them from sale..

Hot, ideal for camping
a spout would be handy with this!

The price of fuel in the US is 50pence a litre
They must be coloured green or red for petrol and black for diesel. It is illegal to use a translucent container for fuel.

Also the maximum size for a plastic container is 5 litres. Use a steel one if you need to store up to 20 litres.

This is not a pointless restriction. If there is a fire at home, a large store of petrol will explode like a large bomb.

This container is designed for water, not hydrocarbons!
handy for small aquarium ppl - makes water changes easier
Handy for taking buckfast to the beach

Not true, colours are irrelevant, although most sites will insist on containers being of the correct colour to avoid confuision at home and potentially being sued!

However, under the container regs, 2x 5 litres plastic are the maximum allowed and unless this is classed as an outboard fuel tank (which it isn't) any petrol station letting you fill it up will face a fine from their local fire officer/PO. Buy one from tesco and try to fill it at the tesco PFS, if they fill it, they're breaking the law!

ps 20 litre ex army jerry cans are illegal to fill in the uk as they're often rotten as hell inside and new ethanol fuel blends will eat them like a fat man on a bag of doritos. They don't conform to UN fuel container regs which is the requirement under DSEAR.
This would probably also do if you were "caught short" while driving out and about.
Wouldn't use this for flammable liquids. This is for water (Gardening or camping)
Many thanks.
hot deal, if it's nationwide.
Perfect for camping - have ordered 2! Many thanks
ordered cheers

Its actually about 63 pence a litre. And they are up in arms about that!
ordered 3! hopefully there will be a way to connect a pressure washer to it via the tap
Thanks!
I have a proper steel one with a decent seal to prevent vapour escaping. Wouldn't trust this one, don't buy it to store fuels. OP is clueless

Thats a bit harsh on the OP, he is just repeating what it says on the Tesco site.
Thanks - needed another 2 for the camper - saves me a fortune compared in having a water tank under the bus
tempted to get one to take to a garage and get some red oO

Won't they mix together?

Actually the see-through ones like these are better for seeing how full it gets so it doesn't suddenly overflow when filling at the pumps ! Also if anyone is concerned about the cashiers getting all jobsworthy you could put it in the boot on the pump side and fill it from there, if the boot or the tailgate's not wide open then it will just look like you're filling your car from the cashier's viewpoint. You could always go when they're busy around evening rush hour as well.

Should be ok - It would mainly only be used as a pre-rinse and to take the muck off under the wheels and wheels itself.
Rest would be the two bucket method followed by another rinse using the PW

Worst case scenario, empty it into a larger water butt and fill it up further :- )
