Tesco will give you Double The Difference (at Customer Services) for any misprice, ie they refund you the over-charge plus you get the same amount again as a 'sorry'.

Yesterday I got overcharged on 24x Diet Coke - shelf price said £5.50 but I was charged £8.00. So I went to CS and got Double The Difference, making the Coke £3.00, 12.5p/ can.

I didn't face any resistance at all when I mentioned DTD, but if you do get a reluctant CS agent, you could quote Tesco's policy at them: “In the unlikely event that we charge you more than the price shown on the shelf or on the product at the time of purchase, we’ll give you double the difference. So if a customer is charged too much, they can make a Tesco colleague aware and they’ll be happy to help with a double the difference refund.”

Should you not have paid 50p

This is reliant on the product being mis-priced. Most (if not all now) will have the correct price up.

No charged £8.

(£2.50 x 2) = £5

£8 - £5 = £3

He paid £8. Over charged by £2.50 so he got £5 back.
Did this last year on a microwave, was a nice £20 back
Is the coke misprice national?
Just phone your local Tesco and ask.

Let us know what they said.

HAHA! Yes, tell them to fix it before you get there
still too expensive...coke is not good for you
How is this a deal. I mean asda gives you a refund as well as a free item you didn't like such as strawberries, then get say £1.50 money back
You can't get double the difference if you go through self service till either. I thought they stopped this they certainly don't advertise it at cs.

Didn't read the thread then?

I haven't had a DTD for ages but I still scrutinise the fresh meat on offer at the end of the isles and then look for the same meat but in non promotional packaging 1/2 price ones are free with DTD. They do get touchy about those and if it's a Sunday or bank Holiday you can't ring CS and they know it, I had to abandon an attempt on a Sunday but rang up monday and they refunded me.

Yes, I've had dtd loads of times but it's not a deal.

Yeah me too.
True more a misc than a deal.
I do believe Tesco have been doing this for years, but they don't shout about it and quiet often they don't give you double the difference unless you ask them for it

Are you definitely sure about this? Don't understand why you wouldn't be able to get DTD back if you go through a self-scan till?
I've never had DTD from Tesco. Always only got what I was overcharged by. As for Asda, I have only had a £2. gift card when overcharged. Never got a free item from Asda either. IF you are overcharged by even 1p in Asda you can get the £2 gift card. If they don't give you the gift card, phone customer services head office they will send you it and they will also contact the store manager to remind him of the policy and make sure the staff are updated on it

Agreed but whereas in previous years mods would move it there, now they leave pretty much everything here.

So do the posts that get moved to misc, either leave them all or move them all. I wasn't complaining, just stating facts

You can get dtd when paying at self service or scan as you shop. Tesco staff will always try to wriggle out of giving it to you, just stand your ground and threaten to ring customer services.

Asda refund the error and give you £2 on a giftcard.

Say to cs your berries are off, hand off your receipt and bingo.
I can't see it as double the difference: they're not taking double (£2.50x2) off the true price making it £0.50!

Of course, they've got to give you the extra you've paid back, but then they're only taking the difference off the original price making the coke £3, so it's not double, IMO
Refund and retain was withdrawn years ago probably due to 1 incident that went viral. Xbox 360 was priced at something like 299.98 on the shelf but scanned at £299.99. The policy over charge get a refund and keep the product. It was before my time.

My best was a a Karcher K2 and patio/car kit. Charged 199.99. Was 99.99 on the ticket. I was paid 2p to take it away. Was a fight with store but CS took my side.

I think it's more than likely DonaldMcGill2 will carry on his merry way, completely oblivious to your life changing teachings, and his obvious shortcomings in intelligence and comprehension.
Refund and Retain; those were the days!
Free PC: Took it back. Got my refund and upgraded it to a flat screen and better spec on the one they got wrong the next day!
CD's galore!
Mobile phones and stereo systems.
Edam cheeses, value cheddar (1p/Kg error) and meat filled the freezer.
Xbox 360, Sony PSP.
I was good at spotting the errors and the little lady on the CS desk at Bristol Eastgate used to roll her eyes and say what have you got now when I was down there for 6 weeks on a training course!
Got 2 cases of 24 Cokes three nights in a row because they just didn't fix the errors!
Last night purchased a Mitec Bluetooth earpiece, was reduced to £7 but went through the till at £14. Went to CS and she kindly refunded the £14 and gave me the product for free. If this policy is not in force and DTD is, then they need to tell there staff! Just thinking and this is in effect the DTD policy!!
