I'm currently looking at buying one of these, I'm not very techy at all but I believe this is a good phone. I was wondering if there was any difference in the usability of a sim free one and a network one that has been unlocked? Would the screen have a different set up and be dedicated to the original network? I just like things 'clean' and would like an 'empty' one as a blank canvass. I also like to save money though!

We have one of these as a test device at work.

It is very well built and feels good to hold, if not a little thick compared to other devices.

It is missing some of the nice features of some android phones like the voice activation and some keyboard enhancements but runs virtually stock android and feels very snappy and great for general use. The screen is crisp and colour seems decent but a little over saturated.

The camera is poor, it is a throw back to 2007 cameras on phones. If you zoom into the photos they often look like paintings. It is fine for the occasional outdoor photo but not really worth bothering with for indoor or concert type shots.

Overall is is fantastic value for money and puts many of the premium phones to shame when you consider the huge price difference.

I am considering one for myself, especially at this price, at least to get me another year before a phone I'd like more long term comes along. The only thing that bugs me is the camera, everything else is good.

I have not done any intense app testing on it but for browsing, twitter, Facebook etc it feels as snappy as some much more expensive phones.

I have the iPhone 4S and the moto g feels feels better in most aspect apart from the camera.

Thanks, I'm already sold on the phone :). Would it make any difference if I pay more and get a sim free one or go the cheap route and then get it unlocked? I have no experience of this. I don't want it plastered with Tesco Icons If I'm not using them. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for you help.

I can't be 100% sure but I think our work one is tesco and it is completely I branded. It is obviously locked to tesco but can easily but unlocked.

Lots have purchased the 8gb model so I am sure someone can confirm it better than me.

I don't think it will have any Tesco icons

Up until recently, I was with Tesco mobile on a 24 month contract with a Samsung galaxy mini which they supplied, after a year got it an unlock code from them and none of the Tesco bits were displayed. phones wasn't branded either, hope it makes sense

ordered and heat added, thx op

Thanks ordered

I bought the Moto G for my wife for Christmas and she loves it and I bought myself one today.

Great phone as everyone has said and easy and cheap to unlock

I have used THIS SELLER off ebay for both phones to unlock them and the codes work and arrive quickly

Yes the best man for unlocking..very fast and so easy to do just buy the phone on tesco network and remove the sim before you turn on and put your sim in and then turn on and it will ask for code, put code in and done as easy as saying 123...no tesco branding and it is voice activated not what others have said that its not...great phone and the camera does take good shots as well...you will not be disappointed...

Got my sister one for christmas, 16gb, managed to get it for about £85 as they had a deal with clubcard points worth double.

Had a little go of it as I was setting it up for her before she got it, great little phone fo the price, camera isnt great but neither was the one on my Nexus 4 and that cost me £300. If I was to go back and have a choice of either of them 2 phones, I'd probably go for the Moto G. Nexus 4 just isnt worth the extra £200.

Just hit day 10 on my 'next day click & collect' and 2 attempts to deliver have failed without Tesco noticing. Feels remarkably like another Tesco wild goose chase.

where does the 5% cashback come from ? all i see is QC offering 1.5% plus tescos clubcard being equivalent of another 1%

Got this phone for £139 from tesco..and it's great!..I was desperately looking for the money off codes but couldn't find any around 2 months ago when I brought the phone. It is very easily unlocked using eBay for a couple of quid..and done overnight at that. No tesco branding at all..and note that it only comes with a USB cable and a standard black back and spare pink cover. At the price mentioned definite steal! Heat from me!

Topcashback are offering 5.05%

Excellent deal. Got 1 each for me and wife 2 months ago. Unlock codes in 30 minutes for £2 each. No tesco branding or software. No hassle. Highly recommended.

Now the only thing i need is to get £99 :P

Ordered, thanks op, all in £122.60p (£2.50 voucher and your code) happy days...

It's not hard to root this phone and change the ROM to an unbranded stock ROM. The moto g forum on XDA, has all the info you need.

Best phone for the price for a mile. Had mine since Feb and absolutely love it. Buy it now!

why would you want to change the rom ?
kit Kat all the way, simply the best phone you can get for the money !!!

Great phone easy to unlock. Don't listen to people who say unlocking voids the warranty.
Points to note: it takes a micro sim, so you will need to cut down a standard sim.
You can't change the Tesco voicemail number so have to dial it manually or set a new contact. I believe there is a hack to fix this on Modaco, but I haven't bothered. Heat from me, payed full price 2 weeks ago.

what's The deal with luma credit card? I have Amazon and get points- 1 point for each pound spent, and 1000 points gives £10 Amazon voucher.
Is your cashback for limited time or for ever?

i dont understand.. this is normally floating around the £100 mark.. or £110 with top up... is this a different phone?- ie bigger memory or so?

Luma cashback card is no longer available to new customers, have a search on here as it was posted a while ago. 4% cashback at grocery shops and petrol stations. Capped at £9 per month cashback.

yes it has voice activation but need to initiate by pressing a button. The moto x has new technology where you can simply say 'ok google' and it will start voice activation.

I have ordered this phone now, for this price I can resist. The camera sucks but every other aspect is perfect. Plus I barely use the camera anyway and I have a good point and shoot.

Thanks poster!

I certainly can change the voicemail number and so have others so am not sure whether that's a network/sim issue or what. On my unlocked Tesco Moto G the voicemail number can be edited although inserting my Tmobile sim seemed to automatically put the number in anyway.

The only Tesco 'branding' I've found is in the Sim Toolkit app (it has preset shortcodes for Tesco things like checking your PAYG balance and such like and cannot be changed) and the fact it says 'Tesco' in the about phone section.

Wanted a code for this, thanks. My S2 has started to slow up after having it for 3 years!

Ah if I hadn't just gotten a nokia 920 I'd have gotten this...

Are you kidding, why buy from ebay when you can get it from a brick and mortar store like tesco or asda, and just walk in for the warranty?

I'm quite into my tech but I have always thought my Galaxy S2 still looks great, runs great etc. But the compromises are a lower quality screen that I run quite dark to conserve battery, poor battery and a dodgy charging cable. Yet I haven't pounced yet because my phone still does most of what I need it to.

I'm gonna go check it out in a store later and see if I feel the love. Otherwise, I'll spend a fiver fixing the charging cable on my S2 and play on

In a recent review, this came out better than the Moto-X which is the flagship version of this device.
