    These taste really nice......
Hope they're better than the £1.47 ones the other day - sour much!

Don't forget local farms or pyo, loads of fun & most are on tables these days so no bending!

best to buy British you nit
It really all depends on the variety of the strawberries; I popped into a small Asda almost 2 weeks ago and the they had them from the USA ("Big boy"), Netherlands and the UK. As they were for my daughter I went for the USA ones as they looked the best! Didn't get a chance to taste them as they went so fast. Bought some English ones from Sainsbury last night, which were English and large, and they they did taste pretty good.

Best that I have ever had were in a Crema Catalan which were "fresas de bosca" (small wild ones). Fantastic taste in combination with the crema.

LIDL were also selling Fresh Strawberries 500g 74p on offer a few weeks back

Voted Hot on this deal, just got a pack from Tesco , much better quality than the LIDL versions though not as cheap as LIDL versions

Any idea what variety these are? If they're Elsanta or Sonata they're usually tasteless mush and not worth bothering with.
Sometimes the supermarkets mix varieties in the same offer so it's worth seeing if there are others elsewhere in the display.

Is it once you factor in time and travel costs?

Our tastes must vary (or the local ones here are better - Perthshire) ... as Sonata and Elsanta are my favourite varieties! (_;), for the flavour....

    You are quite correct.

I got some of the Evolution variety today and they're very good. To be honest after I've made sure they're not Elsanto (Thanks Andreocean) or Sonata, I just look for ones that are a deeper red and not washed out and try them with my thumb. Even with a good colour a nice variety will not yield under the thumb like the high water content, quickly grown varieties.

All subjective of course. Others obviously like the softer varieties. The world don't move to the beat of just one drum ...:)
    Batley still has some

Mine are getting turned into wine
1kg for £3 in Abingdon extra too. There was a lady giving strawberries out by the door... they tasted suprisingly un-tesco-like, i.e. like actual real fruit
pick your own. so much cheaper and you can eat loads simples

Thanks for the link!!! Next weekend for kids sorted :-)
How do you get a kilo for free from signing up? I signed up an did the surveys and nothing
I don't see how PYO is any better, i went to my local about 15 yrs ago when i was young and will forever be traumatised by seeing slugs, bugs, worms and chunks taken out of the strawberries. I'm a fussy eater and would rather pay for supermarket ones which come minus the bugs. I haven't had any horrible tasting ones either and i ate a punnet a week for 4 months during my last pregnancy, great deal for me!
Bought these today. Really good tasting!
