Tesco Value (1 Litre) Tetra-Pack Spanish Wine Red/White £2.62

Was £3.49. Bottles of wine are 750ml/75cl normally but this is 1 litre (1000ml/100cl) So you get an extra 25% more wine compared to a regular bottle of wine. Not bad for £2.62

Is it just me or is drinking wine out of a carton super-tacky.

Does it come with a straw attached to the side?

And drinking from the bottle is posh?

Its just you imo, never had a problem with wine cartons or boxes. In fact the number 1 selling wine in Italy is tavernelo which is in a carton too.

I think that tetra-pack is to keep the light off food and drink to keep it fresher as lots of light can singnificantly change/ruin the taste of some products.

Just doesnt look right in a tetra pack!! But at that price has to be worth a go .....

At last something cheaper here in Spain, about 43p a litre carton in Aldi, Lidl, Supermarket etc. 11% vol. ;-)
Or the better stuff about 60p ;-)
Also got some Beckers Super Strong Premium Lager 8% vol. 0.33Litre cans 32p (39 cents) a can in Aldi yesterday and both include VAT at 18%, just shows how much the UK make on Alcohol Duty

If it £1 £2 or £3 I bet its nasty stuff

Anyone tried this?

I had some last night with bolognese, there's nothing wrong with it.

pay a few pence more for the Echo Falls offer or the Cava

Probably the same as any cheap bottled tesco wine. Would be alright for sangria but wouldn't touch by itself!

138 pennies more per litre for Echo Falls, surely? That's quite a few.

Echo Falls is currently £3 per bottle instore (so only 38p more).

Thanks thommo at least someone noticed that this is larger by 25% than a regular bottle.

For the Echo Falls wine the calculation is 300p divided by 750ml equals 0.4p per millilitre, so one litre is £4.

The Tesco value Spanish plonk is £2.62 for a litre.

So the Echo Falls is about half as much more, for the same amount of wine. Is it 50% better? I don't know because I haven't tried the Value cartons. The Echo Falls Pinot Grigio isn't bad but lets face it at these price ranges, whatever you might pretend, it's not really too much about finesse but getting to drink some wine without spending a lot.

The Echo Falls stuff is over priced at it's usual price, at £3 it's OK. I personally doubt taste wise if it's worth the extra economic and environmental costs of putting it into a bottle rather than a carton. For those reasons I think it would be probably better if most low end wine was sold in cartons but in the current UK outraged moral and political climate I don't suppose that will happen.
