Not bad! We get our potatoes from a local farm (who also supply Asda oddly enough) 25Kg bag for £7 and the potatoes are gigantic! So if you have the room for a big bag I would try a local farm, hurrah for pototo harvest!

£5 for a 25kg round here, supermarkets are expensive for veg

Bargain.
Voted hot.

Without wanting to cause controversy I would say King Edward's rule the Roast roost with Maris Piper's a close second.

Wow I wish I could find a farm near me that did that. The asda offer seems good though. Thanks:p

King Edwards for me

King Edwards for lighter fluffier inside and a shorter parboiling time. Maris for a firmer texture.

I like them Vivaldi's from Sainsbury's. Thats a nice spud.

store them in a cool, dry dark place.

they don't necessarily need to be stored in a dark place, aslong as you keep them covered over, otherwise they will turn green

dont be fooled by false supermarket discounts

Maris Pipers are best all round but especially for making chips, King Edwards are supposed to be better for roasting.

so it depends do you like chips more or roast more.

Don't think we have any ADSA's in my area
If ony ASDA's did the same offer :whistling:

We keep them in the corner of our kitchen. The bag keeps them dark and they last for at least a couple of months

Have to agree. The texture and flavour of a King Eddie is superior to Maris for roasting, but there is little in it. :whistling:

Maris Piper cooked in goose fat.......perfect roast spuds

So... who's the best... King Edwards or Maris Pipers? there's only one way to find out...

FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!:viking:

I couldn't tell ya,i haven't roasted potatoes in years,Aunt Bessie does the potatoes in my house, roast, mash and if i can get them, their wedges are the best by far,but hardly anyone stocks them !

Maris Piper wedgies sprinkled with Coat & Cook 'Southern Fried' even nicer!

Try Sainsburys Vivaldies. Best potatoes I have ever tasted.

My local greengrocers sell 25kg bags of potatoes for between £7 and £8. This matches up with the wholesale prices shown on the link provided by Premier in post #20.

If your local greengrocers are selling 10kg of potatoes for £1, then it looks like they are selling them cheaper than wholesale, which seems surprising.

If that's true, that green grocer won't be around much longer I'm afraid.
Even buying in bulk, you can't buy spuds for less than about £100/tonne.(poorest quality) Current commercial prices are averaging about £130-£180 per tonne for anything half decent.
Here's the prices from 2006 & 2007 - compare ex-farm prices to the 25kg bagged prices and then to the 2008 bagged prices in my earlier link
