yea-stock up - they are lovely:thumbsup:

They are for all Elmwood chickens not just large at £1.47 per kg, I picked up a Small one for £1.51!

Gonna put some in my suitcase.

they still get kissed and cuddled right???

( I used to work on a chicken farm and it isnt nice!)

Had these a few times now. Very good deal and tasty to boot.

I feel like chicken tonight .......

chicken tonight!

I really love these, I love the Co-op too.

All Co-op own-label animal produce is to RSPCA animal welfare standards and they support locally produced foodstuffs.

I'm happy to eat meat but I won't eat any old crap and I prefer my family don't eat any old crap either.

I certainly don't want the animal to have had a horrible & abused life
(I believe this sort of basic lack of care more than likely carries down the line to end up with a very 2nd rate product).
I also don't want them shot silly with growth hormones, anti-biotics and all the rest of those chemicals that I want to be able to choose not to ingest.

Slightly off topic (bear with me), but I really recommend the film Baraka (]http//ww…67/). However, I always squirm a bit at the scene which contrasts the lives of humans and chickens:

I'm still off to the Co-op later to buy myself some birds though! I only really buy chicken when there are offers on free range, or welfare assured birds, so this is perfect. I'll be embarking upon a bit of butchery tonight! Mmmmm, fresh chicken stock and lots of chicken portions for my freezer!

Thanks OP! Heat and rep.

Battery chickens (for eggs) actually have more room than broiler chickens (for meat):w00t:

Freedom/RSPCA farms don't cramp 15+ chickens into a square metre (not laying in their own faeces)

- that causes hock burns - brown/black marks on the end of the legs ]http//t2…jpg

Most supermarkets try to cut/scrape the hock burns off

Chickens are not denied sunlight/access outside and a more stimulating environment (toys/activities) - the "normal" environment is awful and boring, causing chickens to peck each other to death

We haven't been able to get them in quick enough in the Co-op I work in. Offer ends Tuesday.

HOT, Thanks OP! Bought two today.

There was plenty of stock in my local branch this morning (Harrow Road, Maida Vale). They also have free range chickens for 20% off, which is a pretty damn good deal too!

Cheers, just gone and got 3 for tonight
