Didn't even know this was to be released; but it's one of my fave albums of all time. And at just over £3.00 a CD of Cult tunes this is a cracker for fans.

The Cult's 1984 debut, DREAMTIME, proved to be an intriguing, if sometimes muddled, combination of early U2 and the Doors, topped off with Ian Astbury's ongoing lyrical fascination with Native American mythology. The immediate follow-up, LOVE, was a notable improvement. Ditching the most overt Doors references in favor of moody neo-psychedelia that sounds like a harder-rocking version of Echo & the Bunnymen, LOVE includes "She Sells Sanctuary" and "Rain". These driving singles introduced the UK band to the American college-radio market and laid the foundation for the group's mainstream commercial breakthrough later in the decade. The rest of the album is nearly up to the level of the singles, with Astbury's less-mannered vocals and Billy Duffy's powerful guitar riffs offering a much more assertive musical presence than ever before.

Designed to cater for the more committed fan, the Omnibus Edition is presented as a limited edition 4 disc box set with the CD's housed in Japanese-style paper sleeves, reproducing the original vinyl cover art. Along with the James Brown liner notes, the 48 page book features unseen contact sheets from the album photo session and a chronology of contemporaneous quotes by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy that illuminate the status of the band at that point in their career.
DISC 1 - LOVE:
Re-mastered from the original studio analogue tapes.

DISC 2 - SINGLES:
Featuring all the tracks from the album's three 12" singles which included extended versions of album cuts, remixes and non-album `B' sides. This is the first time all these tracks have been presented together outside of the limited, Rare Cult box set released in 2000.

DISC 3 - DEMOS:
Ten tracks were recorded in early 1985 as demos to play to potential producers. Mostly performed live in the studio, these raw versions are an insight into the genesis of the album and have never been released before. Additionally there is a bonus of a rough monitor mix from Olympic Studios of `She Sells Sanctuary' before new vocals and a remix were completed at another studio.

DISC 4 - 1985 LIVE:
Recorded on the Love UK tour by the BBC on 31 October at Hammersmith Odeon, London, this thirteen song set featured songs from the newly released Love album alongside established favourites from their debut release Dreamtime and earlier Death Cult days.

Oh dear; not even finished posting this and it's cold
Was just about to order this but I've obviously dropped a clanger I guess
Rather than just hit cold and vamoosh could you post the link to where it's cheaper thanks

Still got all my old Cult and Southern Deathcult vinyls sat here by me. Got all the original CDs on first release right up until they hit the US and started 'selling themselves out' LOL. Also a big influence on me starting out playing guitar.

Classic tunes... At 17 i actually had my haircut just like Billy Duffy's did on the middle cover of the Love album - i remember taking the disc down to my hairdressers and saying do me that one haha. Classic lol - buy it :-D

PS.. there a hot from me just for bringing back some fond memories ;-)

Good stuff, voted hot

Voted super hot. Love the Cult. I must say you do find great deals, so much so that I keep on getting this message:

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to andywedge again.

Most annoying!

Ordered it from Amazon. They package things better, which for regular CDs is normally of no consequence, but for box sets they're more reliable for receiving it undamaged.

No clanger dropped, big  from me!

Only just rediscovered my Cult albums as have just been working through my cd collection and converting them to mp3. Def want to get hold of the extras and I, like you, wasn't aware this was even due. Nice one

Nice one, kept meaning to buy the CD to replace the vinyl and now very glad I waited :-)

tip top spot

What a classic album from a vastly under rated British band! Got me into music and I still listen to it regularly.

Off to see them at Shephards Bush on Oct 18th to see the whole album played in order... can't wait :-)

sizzling. thanks

A pity that 4 songs are missing from the live CD (I have had a bootleg of that show for 20+ years).
The missing songs are: Revolution, Resurrection Joe, Moya, Wild Thing.

Revolution? Resurrection Joe? That is criminal. I mean, Moya is a big miss also but missing Rev and Res J is a bit weird (to say the least)

I saw them on the "Love" tour in Manchester; can't tell you the year as my memory is a bit fuzzy but it was a great gig and to this day remains one of my fave gigs.

Hope they do something like this boxset with "Dreamtime" as that is just one helluva album.

Much maligned and underrated band and glad to see other Cult (SDC) fans on HUKD

Well, Billy Duffy was rated as one of the 100 greatest guitarists in this month's Classic Rock magazine.

Mind you, they totally missed Gary Moore from the line up so it's a pile of ***** anyway:p

That is odd cos Mr Moore is a fair old talent

Also have a soft spot for Billy Duffy cos he's a fellow City fan.

Good to see that they are touring again (albeit a slightly different line up)

I saw them at the Manchester Academy, 1995 if I remember right because there was some idiot at the front jumping into people and peeving them off until I hit him with my motorcycle helmet. He got enough warnings and was carried out missing such a fantastic gig.
I have all their albums and still play them to this day even though I am a Cure fan first and a close second Cult fan. The Cult are great to workout to or bop to when I tinker with my motorcycles and scooters.
I will be reserving this boxset, a certainty, never been one to listen to popular music that was produced after 1989, my favourite year.
Now where did I put that air guitar?

Ah yes those were the days...me on the way to either Electric (or Sonic Temple?) circa '87

And me looking somewhat sunburned with the Electric tour t-shirt.

Edit:
As much as I enjoyed the Cult in recorded format - they were (being totally honest) absolute ***** live...

Got mine from HMV a few days ago; but strangely it is no longer available and no trace of it on the website. Don't want to rub salt into the wound but it's a lovely boxset.

I'm edging my bets now.
I've ordered from Play.com and it's stuck at packing ....

Yes - it came from Play today. :-)
I'm a very happy bunny as I also had arrive;
Hawkwind Levitation 3CD Expanded Edition - from Cherry Red
Rush Snakes & Arrows BluRay from Amazon.
'Cos City are only playing on Monday I can invest some time with all these. :-)

I don't know who you are Mr.gtd65 but you are my dream dude. If I had a time machine I'd go back to 1987 and find you.. and not in a creepy stalker-ish way.
