Thirteen years ago, "Moab is my Washpot", Stephen Fry's autobiography of his early years, was published to rave reviews and was a huge bestseller. In those thirteen years since, Stephen Fry has moved into a completely new stratosphere, both as a public figure, and a private man. Now he is not just a multi-award-winning comedian and actor, but also an author, director and presenter. In January 2010, he was awarded the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards. Much loved by the public and his peers, Stephen Fry is one of the most influential cultural forces in the country. This dazzling memoir promises to be a courageously frank, honest and poignant read. It will detail some of the most turbulent and least well known years of his life with writing that will excite you, make you laugh uproariously, move you, inform you and, above all, surprise you.

If by insufferable you mean 'witty, clever and entertaining' then yes, he is!

Really though, why bother posting a two word comment like that? What does it add to the thread?

save yourself some printer ink, sheet of A4 & £5 and don't buy the book then.

Excellent thanks

Thank you; that's a must-buy.

I used to like Fry, back in 80s before he was a self absorbed sell-out

I used to like the character of Melchior in Blackadder, but that wasn't written by him. I never liked him as a public figure. But he is hugely popular, I fail to see why.
I wonder why they need to sell his book (hardback) for £5, lol.

Just to add that I got this book for £3 as I used the £5 voucher plus the 20% voucher they were giving out last week.

No, I know, I was surpised that they did. I just asked and the man said he'd give it a go and it worked, so I was pleasantly surprised.

typical. my local store doesnt stock it. another £5 for freshers I guess...

Great deal this one. Just bought the book from WH Smith in Middlesbrough for a fiver. And then they gave me a voucher for £5 off any book that's £10 or over commencing 20.09.10...So I can do it again next week on something else!!!

Hmm worked, kinda

£10 - £5 = £5
£5 - 20% = £4

I guess yellow45's vouchers were applied in the opposite order?

£10 - 20% = £8
£8 - £5 = £3

Still, £4 for a new book is not to be sniffed at.

Worked for me, brill!:3

Also managed to get it for £3. Took a bit of trying on the sales assistant part to get both vouchers to go through, but looking at the reciept it looks like he ended up putting the £5 voucher through as a refund!

Thanks OP, got it for £4, the assistant wasn't too sure the extra 20% would work but it did, albeit not in the way to get the book for £3. Still cheap for a hardback.

Bit confused? I've been into my local WHSmiths & the offer they're doing is 'buy one get one half price', so therefore I've got to be buying another book before I can even get Mr Fry's for a tenner to start with, then for a fiver with the voucher mention before etc etc, or have I got the wrong end of the thick stick, or are different WHSmiths doing different offers?!?!? oO

The sticker on my book says 1/2 price now £10, didn't see anything about buy one get one half price. Just used the £5 & 20% vouchers and hey presto £4 popped up on the till. Plus I got another £5 voucher to use on another book over £10 between 20/09/10 - 29/09/10

Hmmm, perhaps I ought to try a bigger store. Only tried the one at the train station nearby......

Well this didn't work for me!

Jobsworth at whs in Newcastle wouldn't accept the £5 voucher, as the book being bought didn't cost OVER £10. I suggested she charged me £10.01 for it. Needless to say, she wasn't amused.

If you read the small print on the £5 off voucher it says "This voucher entitles you to a saving of £5 saving when you spend £10 on any book". I'd try another shop quoting that if you get another jobsworth!

Well spotted that man!
I'll go back tomorrow, armed with the small print!
(and try to find a different assistant oO )

Muchos thankos!!!

Typical went in the Keighley shop this morning to get this and they wouldn't let me use it as the voucher says its for books over £10 and this book is only £10 - Jobsworth!

The voucher states "This voucher entitles you to a saving of £5 saving when you spend £10 on any book". You don;t need to spend a penny more. Go back grab the assistant by the throat and demand that they honour their company's offerings.....or better and legally still use another store or assistant

Has anyone started to read it yet? I was only keen to find out what Fry got imprisoned for then boom the daughter told me.

Great Yarmouth branch bar-stewards have it stickered at £15, so stuff em.

Only £9.00 at Tescos so double stuff em.
