Found this on the shelf at Asda in Barry.

Not sure if it’s nationwide as still showing at £24 online.

Plenty on the shelf lunchtime today, I only picked up the one..

No it's not! They're selling it off cheap for a reason - no repeat buyers would be my guess. I've had a couple of shots out of my bottle. Can't face going back to it any time soon. As a Glenlivet fan, I feel I've been somewhat duped by this one.

The original Glenlivet won a blind taste test as one of 10 best whiskies.....this is the most popular Scots whisky......not tried this expression though......good price is it national

Not sure which taste test that was, but I'd expect it was for the 12 yo single malt.

This deal is for a "No Age Statement" whisky, which (for most whisky lovers) will not be "as nice". Of course, taste is individual so someone may love this and hate the 12yo, so YMMV.

I liked it when I had it, but I got it for £2.50 (from Morrisons) so there wasn’t much not to like.

I like it. But my nearest Asda never has these sorts of deals

It's a Speyside whisky you can't really go wrong

This is a "No age statement" (aka NAS) Whisky. So very likely to be blended from single malts that are of multiple ages, but more than likely nowhere near 10 year old. This is how Whisky companies are looking to make money ... take whisky that's much younger, put it into unusual casks or do something "different" with it, and then sell it for Single Malt Prices.

In this case - the price (with reduction) is likely "value for money" though. However, I would not recommend purchasing as a "bargain" for a present for a whisky lover, because if they really know their whiskys then (most, but not all) wouldn't really thank you for a "NAS" whisky, unless it's at the much more expensive end (which might be a NAS, but blended from very old single malts). If in doubt, and it doesn't have an age statement on the box, I avoid, even if it looks a bargain. Too hit or miss for me.

I'd try it for 15 quid ......if I can get one from my Asda tonight at that price I'll post tasting notes later ......I am a connoisseur

Been after a cheaper scotch - is this one peaty? Can't get on with peaty whiskies.
EDIT: Fixed spelling to appease whisky snobs (edited)
    bigsweet's avatar
No it's mainly the west coast and island whisky's that have the peaty flavour

24 quid at the checkout at Asda bideford.

    Not national then?

Maybe or maybe not. My Asda often don't get to change the price labels for ages - worth asking perhaps.
