Just picked up a copy of The Host (Korean horror with English subtitles) in Poundland in Swindon - marked 'Rental version' and 'Not for retail'! Didn't see any other copies, but they might be around.

TBH any DVD for £1 is a bargain - hot from me - even though I personally thought this film was awful!

hot. great film too!

Found it a bit disappointing myself, but some people loved it, so willing to give it another try for a quid.

stoke the fires got it on blu ray myself but cracking foreign film

Absolutely loved this film - well worth a pound if you can find one!

Nice find OP, heat added

On Film4 on Saturday (or close to Saturday)

I've seen many DVDs in Poundland marked as 'Rental version' and 'Not for retail'. Personally, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. They are never shrink wrapped and are always in a scabby/tatty condition. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if these are ex-rental (pre-owned) dvds sourced from a large rental chain having a clearout (Blockbuster??).

Whatever the story, I'd imagine Poundland will get their knuckles rapped if the 'powers at be' ever find out they're flogging rental only products!!!!!

Great movie and there are copies in Exeter branch.

They've only got Best of the Best 1 to 4 and Boris Karloff dvds at my Poundland

Great film!

Unlikely tbh, it may well be they are ex-rental, in which case they are perfectly fine to be sold on, Blockbuster do it every day. They should be labeled as pre-owned, but if as you say they are in a tatty condition and say "rental copy" on, it goes without saying really that they aren't brand new. Plus, it's a quid, who can really complain?

As for the issue of selling rental product, it happens sometimes, I work at Blockbuster and every now and again a studio will send out the wrong batch of stuff to sell on, recently a man bought The Wrestler on blu-ray, I sold it to him brand new and shrink wrapped but when he got home it said rental version on the box, he phoned back and I checked our other stock, same thing. The disc itself is identical to all other retail versions though (I got mine from HMV I think), no missing special features or a different cut of the film, so there's no reason not to sell it and he didn't mind. Conversely sometimes we'll get "retail copies" to rent, again it only happens every now and again but it does, the last time I remember was when the first Sex and the City movie hit blu-ray, all our rentals said retail on the box but the studio confirmed we could rent them.

I can confirm it wasn't shrink-wrapped (which in itself doesn't really prove anything), but the disc is absolutely mint - better than 99% of discs I've received from Love Film over the years - I'd be amazed if it had ever been rented.

I loved this movie. Well worth £1. hot hot hot.

it was definitely a brand new non ex rental copy i purchased in poundland last week .

i enjoyed it
