For all those thinking that the HP 530 deal for £256.99 was good, but a little lacking in laptop specification, HP seem to have launched a new deal today. Spec now includes:

Operating system installed Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic
Processor type Intel Core Duo T2400 / 1.83 GHz ( Dual-Core )
Memory 1GB
Internal hard disk drive 120 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
Optical drive type DVD±RW (+R double layer) / DVD-RAM
Display size 15.4" TFT active matrix 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )

Now charging a starting price of £311 instead of £292, but £40 off with voucher deal and 5% back with Quidco makes this a pretty good deal. £4.99 for delivery is no rip off either. Just ordered one myself.

Are HP Laptops any good? I have only really looked at Dell ones before

Are HP Laptops any good? I have only really looked at Dell ones before

Yeh, we have loads of dell and hp at work.. dell's have bits falling off and random issues whereas we haven't (touch wood) had a problem with any of the hp's yet.

HP stuff is good quality, always use their servers and networking gear - never had a problem.

I am tempted to cancel my wifes dell vostro 1000 at £327 delivered and go for this. Only difference is this hp has 1 gig of ram compared to 2 gig and a 2 year warranty but we ordered it on the 26th of jan and it is still in pre production stage and expected delivery is 14th of feb.

Just to add too, I have a dell inspiron 1501 bought last year and its poor quality and the keyboard is unresponsive so I miss letter all the time unless I hit the keys really hard. It's a heavy brick too.

The model number in my basket and specs don't add up. Specs are those of the higher priced model. If they supply the basketed model you will end up with Cel-M not Core Duo.

Are you sure? Mine seems to work fine

may sound stupid but does this have wifi

Working again - but 2 week delay posted. Is there a problem with this site using Firefox?

You can add another 1Gig of Ram for £19.99 delivered from Orca (easy to install).

Spec matched the model number in the basket and in the order confirmation - it was definitely the Core Duo processor. The £292 deal was a Celeron, hence the reason I thought this a better package - better processor, 100% more memory and 50% bigger hard drive for another £19!

Re: 2 week order time, in order confirmation "We currently expect to have your complete order in stock by 07/02/2008, and delivered to you 1-2 working days after that. This is based on the information provided from our warehouse and factories, but may change." Bit at the the end is fairly standard backside-covering. Things can go wrong, but they could for anyone!

Heat and rep added. I got the same laptop about four months ago for £330. Added another gig of RAM from ebuyer, and it flies with everything except games. In answer to the Dell v HP question, the same time I got my HP a couple of friends bought Dells. The screen on mine is way better than theirs, and theirs feels cheap and plasticy, whereas mine feels solid and classy. The keyboard is ten times better. The only thing better on the Dells is that they have USB on both sides of the laptop (HPs is on the left), firewire included (but a PCMCIA card for £10 solves that), and the mousepad doesn't resemble a cheesegrater, unlike the HPs. All in all, I'd choose the HP every day of the week.

Great find.

I'm confused by the HP site. I think they have made a mistake with the spec of this computer

h41306.www4.hp.com/sec…413

can someone please post a link for the extra ram on orca or ebuyer

Looks good, very tempted. Do you know how long this offer is on for? I only ask because I'm getting the car serviced next Monday, and I'd rather wait and make sure there's no nasty surprises with that before splashing out a few hundred quid!

These are really high quality laptops, you could show it to your mate and they would think you had paid quite a bit more!

The only thing I don't like about them is the fact there is no hard drive activity light on them.

Why am I tempted to order one

Check the link I posted above and look at the HP part number. Information is difficult to find and somewhat contradictory but I believe that KQ630AA has the celeron processor.

Does look a little odd - when you actually click on the item and look at specs it lists as Core Duo. I did check with HP before purchase and them confirmed this. Also took the precaution of saving a copy of the web page showing specs in case anything is amiss on delivery

h41306.www4.hp.com/ite…0AA

I agree with Bertt, doing a search on other sites this particular model comes back as a celeron cpu.

If you order it and they say it's Core Duo then that's what they have to send you. If I'd ordered one of these and a Celeron came through then it'd go back. If it's a CD then it's all gravy.

Having said that, given that I've already paid £60 more for this specced HP a part of me would be happy if it was only a Celeron on offer.

Is this better then a dellvostro 1500 as I may send this back and go for this deal?

hotukdeals.com/ite…c2/

here is the link to the dell vostro one I have!

is th ehp better than this spec and looks and build wise

opinions please?

Gone for this, after quidco your looking at £262.20.fingers crossed it will be core duo/120gig.If not I have printed off the spec sheet for reference. The ball is now in HP,s court

If you go to the main HP homepage and click on the laptop deal, or here >> ]http//h4…ore
the main page shows 6 different laptops. The first is the (KQ630AA) - clearly identified as a celeron machine, and the second (KP479AA) which matches the spec of the laptop found by the OP.

First machine (celeron) is £311 inc.vat, the second (dual core) laptop is £374.

Does anyone really think HP will honour the OP's deal?
Not a dig - just a genuine question - as at £311-£40 + quidco savings is a good deal, and I for one would order one if i thought they would honour it.

Not Core 2 Duo though.

Core Duo isnt nearly as good as Core 2 Duo ive heard.

Core 2 is definitely quicker than a Core but for most people the difference is negligible, especially considering the laptop.

I don't think HP make their laptops to customer specification like Dell do, right? If that's so, then there's no way they'll put a Dual core in to a Celeron!

anyone help me with my questions previously?

also as this comes with vista can you downgrade to xp for free or am i hearing wrong

I've ordered the Vostro 1500 and its far better spec than the HP advertised. but I have to say the build quality is better on the HP. I've seen the Vostro 1500 and it is good value for money. Waht will you be using your laptop for? If its just surfing general Office use the HP celeron would be a good buy. its cheaper and lighter and the battery life has a longer life.

Well I got the vostro 1500 now just wondered if this is gonna be better for me to get this and put in another 1gb memory that will still make it under £300. After that I think spec wise the hp will be better wont it?

It goes by product number so u'll get a Celeron going by that particular number. Seems specs are incorrect for that lappy. Maybe you can complain though after they come and they might swap it for the dual core?

shame dont think its worth the risk

HP over DELL everytime

also the dvd double layer writer will be a big bonus for me

The more expensive one is for business customers. Not sure why that would make a difference but it seems to

so do people not think they will honour this?

If you want to upgrade you can get PC5300 (Which is what this laptop takes) 1Gig stick from Play.com for £12.99 delivered and there is quidco on this too.

]http//ww…nre

And it's Kingston Memory.

Is the best value laptop available on the road? Would you say that? Because there have been many other laptops deals on hukd recently and its quite hard to find and then differientate between the best value one under £400 (there have been many under this price)

i am after a laptop. not sure what to do, would be a bargain if it was the spec listed in OP but we cld end up with a celeron

just at the card details screen... hmm

yeah if somebody rings up we will know for sure

they are closed right now

thats why then lol, am sure we can send back if they fob us off with a celeron
