The Karate Kid is a popular 1984 drama by the director, John G Avildsen and one of the better takes on the original fighting classic Rocky (also directed by John G Avildsen). The new kid in town (Ralph Macchio) targeted by karate-wielding bullies, gets himself a mentor in the form of the handyman (Pat Morita) from his apartment building. The mentor teaches him self-confidence, fighting skills and the art of karate. The screen partnership of Macchio's motor-mouth character and Morita's reserved father figure works well and the script allows for the younger man to develop sympathy for the painful memories of his teacher. Elisabeth Shue is enlisted as the romantic interest that klutzy Macchio dreams of winning. But the film's real engine, as with Rocky, is the fighting, and there's plenty of that. Subsequently the film went on to breed many Karate Kid wannabes in the mid 80s. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

got this the other week and the other link for same price. well worth the price as you get the nice transfer and you also get sweet extras,if you had the special ed on dvd ull enjoy the newer pic in pic commentary and info by danial and jonny carecters, interesting and useful other extras, cant believe they tied fishing line to real flies on the chopstick scene hahah.

Nice transfer too.

i'd rather paint the fence

What a scam. Whoever buys this BluRay nonsense is a sucker. You can get the entire series of films (1-4) for 49p more on DVD. That's 1.38 / disc or £3.60 cheaper than this "hot deal."

Sorry but DVD quality for a film produced in 1984 on a TV that likely isn't good enough to render the differences between a DVD and BluRay anyway is a waste of money.

fair point, but can you find this blu-ray cheaper anywhere than £4.99

Fair point, I cannot. But people should be made aware that the £5.49 for movies 1-4 movies pack exists on DVD too. They might just want to own these movies and don't have a 100" or wall projector that makes Blu Ray make sense to have.

Just surprising to see a movie from 1984, even as good a set of movies as this (ex. 4), go for such a high premium. Particularly for people re-buying the same movie a second or third time.

Might be worth noting that Karate Kid 2-4 were awful films compared to the first.

Also, isn't there special bonus features that isn't on the cheaper DVD alternative?

And 1 more point possibly, there is DTS-HD Master Audio in this version so people may choose this over the DVD version if they're into their audio.

Wax on, wax off.

What about those of us that do have the equipment to notice the difference and want to see the extras??
