Are you arguing with yourself?

I don't think anyone has the time for these teenage fanboy debates. Value, as always, is in the eyes of the buyer.

On a separate note, why is such a huge game arriving at the end of life of a console. Why not create as a PS5 debut title. Probably because of the long development cycle, but still timing seems wrong.

Me: I'm not gonna buy or play this until the PS5 comes out.

Me today: Ordered.

Sigh. Thanks HUKD.

Good thing this isn't a limited edition.

The synical side of me wants to say it's because they can release it for ps4 and then the inevitable GOTY edition for the PS5 6 months later, knowing people will be too excited to wait. Still have this pre-ordered though cause I'm a mug

Because it will be re-released as "enhanced version" for PS5. This and some of the other AAA titles of this year are intentionally being kept for the last minute release to be ported on PS5.

Who mentioned Nintendo?

I have both consoles and I really like both. Don't understand why people are so pro-one console that they have to put down the fan base of another...

Enjoy games, enjoy consoles and enjoy exclusives.

Seems like a bit of a dim view, why is such a huge game arriving at the end of the life cycle and not just releasing on PS5? Because bigger install base on PS4 means larger software sales obviously.
If I pre-order from Amazon, am I guaranteed to receive it on release day (29th of May)? I would be very disapointed if I can't play it after work.
It deserves to be bought twice on ps4 & ps5. i would personally play it asap to avoid the game being spoiled for me. No doubt there will be big suprises in the storyline which will be discussed all over the internet

No. You will have a good chance especially if you pay extra for delivery but you can't be 100% sure. I have been stung before with gta 5 and other games. If you want it on day of release you are better off going in store in my opinion

Probably a number of reasons, some of which have already been mentioned:

1) bigger install base on PS4.

2) so they can sell it to us again as a 'remaster' on PS5, just like they did with the last game between PS3 and PS4. However we are expecting backwards compatibility so not sure how they're going to swing that one. That said, we don't yet know how backwards compatibility is actually going to work.

3) it is one of the most lauded IPs in gaming history and therefore a huge system seller, allowing them to squeeze out a few million more PS4 sales before the next gen and clear out console stock.

4) they don't really need it to beef up the PS5 launch catalogue; I'm sure they have that in hand. I think Ghost of Tsushima will launch with the PS5, they announced Godfall already, Guerilla will probably have something big for launch, there will probably be a new Gran Turismo around launch, whatever BluePoint is working on could be PS exclusive, especially if it is the heavily rumoured Demon's Souls remake!

5) they don't have another big ticket exclusive to release Q2-3 2020, and they don't like leaving gaps like that!

I personally disagree with people questioning why its releasing late into the PS4's life. The original game released at almost the exact same point in the PS3's life and still sold extremely well. Yes, it was ported over a year later to the PS4 but the PS3 version didn't suddenly stop working. No one forced anyone to buy the game again.

I don't think there will be a PS5 version and I say that because it will have hardware based backwards compatibility from day one with PS4. Remasters will be a much harder sell next-gen and I personally think full on remakes will be the popular thing. Look how successful they've been this gen with RE2, RE3, Shadow of the Collossus and FFVII.

Even if there is a new port of TLoU Part II it will ALWAYS be optional.

With you in terms of your line of thought, only caveat is I can see a ff7 ps5 sku when they release the Xbox version.

Yes, choose the free release day delivery option at checkout. I've ordered plenty of games from Amazon and every single one has arrived on release day.

Because if they delayed it for PS5 it would only sell a fraction of the units that it will on the PS4.

It's not the end of the PS4s life cycle just because the PS5 is on the way, they don't want people to just stop buying PS4 games and consoles and it'll continue to be supported with new releases after the PS5 arrives anyway.

There's never any guarantee with deliveries. But Amazon and most game retailers dispatch so it arrives for the launch date. Fits through the letterbox too.

Companies will always look to make money, but it'll be harder for them when a cheaper, already-looks-good-enough version exists. Games already run at close to 4K resolution on both existing systems. I don't think they'll get away re-releasing a port with a slightly better frame rate for £40.

Think there will be some dlc or something bundle in as their way to justify it but generally I don't think we are going to get remasters like we did in the previous generation

Amazon are terrible for getting release date games on time. They always have it in stock but suggest re-ordering if it doesn’t arrive on time. It’s terrible for pre-orders and the last 3 I’ve done with them really put me off using them for it again. You have been warned lol

Yes, already been confirmed. Mark Cerny, the system architect, showed Spider-Man running on the PS5 to highlight how much faster the load times are with an SSD.

Digital foundry recently discovered that the backwards compatibility is hardware based and the PS5 switches modes automatically to mimic a PS4 or PS4 Pro.
