Hey there. Yes there is an option to once you start a New Game on the PS4 version (I was worried at first when I started it but the option to transfer eventually appeared in the game's initial menus).
Although I felt that the first game was a little longer than it needed to be (Falcom taking its time with unveiling Erobonia's different areas) I enjoyed it on the whole.

I'm 17-18 hours into the sequel and I'm still playing it so its doing something right.

If you want a JRPG that looks cutting-edge or super stylish look at Square Enix or Atlus' output. Add it stands this is a really great JRPG that puts characters, story and gameplay first. Unless the sequel takes a nosedive I think I'll enjoy this one to the end as well.
