This CD box set contains the highly-acclaimed BBC Radio dramatisations of 'The Lord of the Rings' and its fantastic prelude 'The Hobbit', along with two CDs of thrilling music. These magical adaptations became instant classics when they were first broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and continue to delight today. Tolkien's epic tale of Middle-earth has all the classic ingredients of fantasy and adventure: dwarves, elves, goblins and trolls, a terrifying dragon, a great wizard, a fearsome evil, a perilous quest and a dramatic climax. With an all-star cast including Ian Holm, Michael Hordern, Robert Stephens, John le Mesurier and Bill Nighy, these enchanting dramatisations are a must for all Tolkien fans. 'For those who find the books too long-winded and the films too noisy, this is the perfect way to assimilate the myth and magic of Middle-earth'

POST15 don't work for me ?
Ordered thanks POST15 code not working though but still fab deal
Excellent, heat added - some real bargains on there. Christmas shopping has begun!
An audiobook collection without Stephen Fry narrating it, voted hot for that reason alone.
Peter Woodthorpe (the guy who voices Gollum/ Smeagol) is outstanding in this production. He unequivocally defined what the two characters' voices ought to sound like and the way he switches, or rather, deftly rolls from one to the other is dazzling! Peter Jackson was certainly aware of this when he made the film.

Old enough to remember when these were broadcast; every Sunday Lunchtime for six months!

Not quite sure I have the stamina for a collection of this nature, but strongly tempted

According to Wiki - seems fairly close to the text original, and only cites half a dozen or so differences
Ordered.thx Andy
Hope it comes as Amazon/Play have for pre order for the 6th Oct
Boom!
If my dad was old enough to make use of audiobooks I would be getting his xmas sorted now!
Thanks OP!! Hot!!
Anyone else thinking MISPRICE??
I tend not to like regular audiobooks, but this dramatisation was awesome. If anyone loved the films, but found the books too daunting to read/listen to, try this out

I agree. There is a very high chance all orders will be cancelled. The BBC are not for cutting prices, so TBP will be taking an horrendous loss on these. Missprice is written all over this.

No. The BBC LOTR Trilogy was previously available for £17.49 delivered @ Amazon, so add The Hobbit and although it's certainly a very good deal, it's not a misprice.

Don't think it's a misprice. Book People often do books etc at 80/90% off. Bought shed loads from them and (touch wood) never had an order cancelled

But this is a brand new release?

It is, but The LOTR Trilogy is the same as it was before, so it's only the inclusion of The Hobbit (and new packaging) that that should affect price. I accept that I may be wrong on this, but that's the way I see it at present.
Hot! No Questions;)
Cheers. Will be nice to listen to after my current Stephen Fry audiobook!
Never heard the Hobbit part, but the LOTR part of this is brilliant - a really fantastic dramatization, not just an audiobook narration. Really an all-time BBC great. Superb cast, largely very faithful to the book... just about the only off point is the sound effect for Shelob, which sounds like Mr Blobby

wow great price, ordered one for me and my dad (he has this minus the hobbit on the tape edition. just hope they arrive and dont cancel them.

POST15 don't work for me ?

Were you spending over £35?
I've listened to this before and it is an amazing production. If I hadnt just spent so much on ANOTHER mountain bike, I'd buy this.

Most intriguing quote of the day...

Is your dad Benjamin Button?

I don't think I've ever seen a misprice from The Book People before so would expect this just to be their price.

I noticed this myself last night, in the Book People Xmas catalogue which came with Saturday's Guardian ... I very much doubt misprice ... just a cracking good deal....
