Anyone know if they plan to release this on blueRay?

The theatrical versions have been confirmed for next year. Extended versions will no doubt be along some time after.

I've got a copy in 720p, it was on TV a while ago so you could have recorded it I guess ...

Wow I remember paying more than this for each part!

I re-watched it recently such an awesome trilogy and I was in awe to watch the additional stuff on some of the discs just to see the sheer commitment and dedication that went into these movies!

I bought this same box set ages ago for £49.00! :x

Still its a great box set with nice graphics used for the cases and the content is awsome!

I agree on the additional stuff showing the sheer commitment and dedication in these movies - especially the two guys who only job for 3 years was linking tiny rubber hoops together to form chain mail - brilliant! :-D:thumbsup:

Heat!

The region free releases will hit the US at the beginning of November this year.

That won't have been a native 720p, if it was on the TV. WIth that in mind, the PQ would have been the same as watching the DVD on a 720p capable TV.

The official Blu-Ray releases will be shown in 1080p24 (native) and you should certainly notice a difference.

Mr Frodo....its so hot....lol

these DVDs look pretty good on my HD monitor - as compared to The Dark Knight, which excuse the pun, is diabolical.

would love to see the blu-ray version tho.....

It was on Sky HD I think ... on HDTV, I've compared them to the DVDs I have and there's definately more pixels and detail, it's not upscaled (I don't think?) ... I might be wrong.

Still a full release onto bluray with all the extras will be welcomed.

There are HD copies floating around.

Just google "Lord of the Rings 720p" or "Lord of the Rings 1080p"

;-)

I've had a look at some of these and wasn't particularly impressed (but then, I've only seen a handful of blu-rays that I'd say are particularly stunning and show off what a good TV and player are capable of).

The offer though, for the extended trilogy is excellent.
