lol-I guess asda have just destroyed the competition on this one-imagine the new dan brown hardback being sold for 4.99!

Unless you need something else from Amazon then the ASDA deal is much better.

Not really, as the ASDA deal is only in-store and thus if you don't live near one or conveniently get to one, its easier to order online.

not really - I'd rather pay £5.50 delivered than have to traipse over the other side of the city and run the gauntlet that is "Part of the Walmart family"

Only £4.99 to own what is likely to be the literary creation of the century if not millennium!

Nice find, got an nice cloth for cleaning the ]inside car glass for 76p as my filler. Rep added

i pre ordered this and i have just rang amazon and they have now refunded the difference. so thanks to OP otherwise i'd never have known

Pre-ordered on Amazon about six months ago - was despatched yesterday at £9.49! Amazon used to have some sort of automatic price promise, but had to call up to get the refund to match £4.99. That'll teach me to pre-order - hasn't even arrived yet. Great price.

cheers, they said they'll refund £4.50 difference  They're doing this because they want people to buy (like asda) more things on the website as free delivery starts at £5! they are making a £4 loss like asda are

Normally the first for a deal, but feel like a right fool - I'd preordered it on play for £9.49 and not even arrived yet!!! Even did my shopping earlier in Tesco and could of had it in my hands for £7! Play said it was posted Friday.
Have also preordered the new Prof Layton for DS and Marian Keyes book- should I cancel??

Amazon are pretty good at automatically honouring their pre-order price guarantee, so if you pre-ordered a product to which this applies then sit tight for a day or two and save yourself the hassle of calling them and wasting your time and theirs - and if it doesn't happen automatically contact them in a couple of days.

I've had several refunds this way - including one a week or so back for 1p - it must have cost them more to process the refund than it was worth.

As for the person saying that the Asda deal is *much* better, dream on - it's only comparable, let alone better, if you need to be in Asda anyway - otherwise far easier to let Mr. Pat and hs black and white cat bring it to you in person!

Just curious, but what's a telxon gun? Is that a staff scanner? And does it provide profit margin info on every item?

yes-staff scanner m8 and tells you profit margin on anything, number in store, number coming in that night, how many you have sold etc-also links to a printer to do the yellow label reductions, price changes every morning etc.

telling me I cant have a refund, would need to return book, i'm on the phone now!

I preordered - they offered me £3 amazon vouchers back - I spoke to a supervisor, who still won't ok it, she is going to phone me back tonight after she looks into it further! i'm furious.

Do you know if this item was covered by their pre-order price guarantee? (Maybe says so on your order email). If so, then you're covered by it if they cut the price on the launch day (as they have), so their should be no issue - they should issue the refund automatically, usually a day or two later.

Was priced at 9.49 this morning as I nearly bought it at Amazon, glad I waited til this afternoon

the supervisor I spoke to just rung me back, apologised and has arranged for the money to be returned! I hope other people don't have problems as they shouldn't of dropped it the day after they sent them out like that! Whats happened to all the paddy's, they used to be so helpful, have they outsourced the customer care now as well?

Heat and Rep - saves me mixing with the great unwashed in Asda :whistling:

Just called Amazon to get the refund.. The Lady I spoke to politely said that the only way to get the refund is to cancel the order and then for me to order the book again at this price :'(

Looks like they are treating different ppl differently...how unfair

Not entirely a bargain unless you are a big fan but Amazon are also doing a DVD box set of the Da Vinci code and Angels and Demons for £16.68
amazon.co.uk/Vin…1-3

why on earth do people on amazon who have never read it post reviews...how irriatating! I want to see if it is a good book or not, not what people who have never read it think.

That is very wrong. I spoke to an Asian lady who sorted it out though it took a few minutes. Just received the confirmation mail from amazon too. Might be worth mailing their customer services.

Rules on price changes on pre-orders actually only apply as follows - "Our Pre-order Price Guarantee covers one or more item(s) in this order. If the Amazon.co.uk price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you will pay the lowest price. Terms and conditions apply". So I guess it is at the discretion of Amazon to make good the refund or get a whole load of returns...
