I'd like to thank juliet_bravo for pointing this one out to me, as I was rabbiting on about these yesterday.

Play.com have the "Flip", which has only just been released in the UK in the last few days. The Flip has been really popular in the USA, with over 1 million sales there in its first year, taking a 13% share of the USA digital camcorder market in 12 months. And it's easy to see why Flip has been so successful... It's SIMPLE. There's one button to record, the camera does everything else (like focusing) automatically. There's enough room for 60 mins of video. Once you've finished recording, you can uploading it to your computer without messing about with cables, discs and drivers. The USB "plug" is a part of the device is contained within the player itself, and when you connect it up the software is automatically loaded as it is stored on the player itself and the software encodes the video into a format which is suitable for editing on your PC/Mac. The software allows you to edit the video, add music and upload it to YouTube, Myspace, etc or email it to someone, all from within the program.

Play.com are selling this for £99.99. The lowest price in the UK at the moment is £99.95. Play.com offer £5 off when you use the discount code "CREST081", bringing the price down the £94.99. There's 4% QuidCo, allowing for £3.80 in cashback. You can also choose an accessory when you buy your Flip, and you'll get 50% off that accessory. Delivery from Play.com is free.

dont' forget experience08 discount code

EDIT: 5% works out to be the same as £5 , so i guess it doesn't matter which one you use. can't be possible to use both can it?

Essentially a camera and USB stick in one. Depending on the quality of the images, i can't see this to be value for money. There are loads of flash memory camcorders out there already which you can get for cheap and are expandable with SD memory.

What's the spec of this thing?

Gary_rip posted it this morning, sadly a -25 !!!! : hotukdeals.com/ite…rd/ .

I'm going to post some demo links in the first comment that I've reserved. Bear with me.

I feel like I am missing something here, whats the thing with these, whats the hook that makes them special and worth £100? Not voted either way yet as I am not sure whats making them so popular?

By far the Flip's biggest strength is its simplicity. About the size of a … By far the Flip's biggest strength is its simplicity. About the size of a digital camera, it features just a handful of buttons, and is ready to start recording less than three seconds after you turn it on. It has a modest 2x digital zoom, but smoothly pans in and out of shots, and performs surprisingly well in low-light conditions. The resolution - 640 by 480 pixels - is a world away from the high-definition pictures of expensive camcorders, but looks crisp and sharp on a computer screen. Its 2GB flash drive can store up to 60 minutes of video.advertisementBut - and here is the clever bit that has helped the Flip to see off competition from other budget video cameras - it's what happens when you plug the Flip into the computer that really matters. For a start, you don't need to worry about losing the USB cable - the Flip takes its name from the USB stick that pops out the side of the camcorder, allowing you to plug it into your computer.Secondly, there's no software to install because it's all stored on the camera, and starts automatically when connected to the computer. The Flip knows whether you're using a PC or a Mac and instantly encodes the file in the correct format for editing. It pops up a program that allows you to quickly and easily edit your movies and set them to a soundtrack, upload films to YouTube, Facebook or your blog at a single click and embed a video into an email "greeting card".In other words, it's idiot-proof. This, says Jonathan Kaplan, the chief executive of the company behind the Flip, is what makes it special."Most people have a terrible experience with their camcorder," he says."They've spent a lot of money on it, they're difficult to use, so they capture video maybe once every couple of months and it sits in the closet the rest of the time."The goal of the Flip, he says, is to make video fun and easy, so that you actually do something with your footage. The question is, of course, whether the Flip can replicate its success in the States in the rather harder-to-please European market, particularly as we already have several gadgets that can do a similar job.

It's been out there for over a year, hence the price drops.
