Seems almost too good to be true. (_;)
"Shame its not ultra violet" - words I never thought I'd hear.
This series really blew me away. I am a huge Bond fan but was disappointed by Spectre. This series was much better Bond style with a budget 1/8th of Spectre
I just bought this but used the code: gullible to get the HD version for £6.49.
It had the cast, style but little content. I felt that nothing really happened week by week. A much better UK drama is to be found in The Shadow Line.

Exactly how I felt. The last episode was the only one that felt like something was going on.
Great cast but style over substance I thought.
Very predictable. And **** poor compared to the Scandinavian series. Doubt I'd watch it again - apart from Jed :-) But even she was a bit of a identikit blonde ....
I might go for Peter Kay's 'Car Share' at a fiver - but then again no doubt it'll be repeated (in beeb spin - "another chance to see the classic") again VERY shortly .... store.bbc.com/pet…are
B.T.W Does the chrome casting of your purchases work yet???

great series but why we are being asked to PAY when we already have through our TV licence is a bit cheeky!
Excuse the stupid question - is this a download or just streaming ? with a whole 1MB of bandwidth streaming isn't really an option for me.

Even if the BBC wanted to forgo the money earned by selling copies of this, there's not a chance in hell they'd be allowed to by the regulatory authorities. The commercial channels petitioned against iPlayer, against BBC 1 + 1, against series links, against recipes on the BBC website, etc, etc.

Thought the same, all flash. Over use of music to indicate drama where none really exists.
A lot of negative comments here, which surprises me given the viewing figures. Each to their own, though.

I loved it though - best thing on tv for ages for me. I found it totally gripping

So they should give away free copies? Or just never make physical copies available?

Yes, and even that was pretty predictable.

Its stream or download via BBCi player or from the BBC video store site. No time limit on download if you buy it unlike the 30 day limit on regular BBCi player.
I dont mind paying for quality like this even though it was on telly for nothing
Tom Hiddleston was the least convincing West Country villain ever. Jethro could have done a better job.

I don't get this. Which role are you on about?
Currently working through this (and I use the term "working" advisedly!), have got as far as episode 4 and am sorely tempted to knock it on the head and look out and re-read my copy of the book instead.

It's definitely trying to be much more "Bond" than "Le Carré", very surprised he seems to have given it his blessing!

As airdsuk says above, it's not remotely as well done as ANY of the scandi-noir series.

Very disappointing after reading all the "hard-sells" .
what am I missing? it was just free on TV, what am I paying for?

Well i wanted a permanent copy and not have to rely on the iplayer turnover. I plan to watch it again a few times as i emjoyed it so much. Some complaint on here but i found it one the most watchable things in ages. If notjing else the foreign settings cheer me up and the cast are nice to look at

I'm just taking a wild guess here, but i think it could be the opportunity to watch it anytime you want....forever. no different to buying any show digitally or on physical media.

Did you even watch this show?

Whats funny is that you got a 'like' for that. Blimmin nora.

Tom Hiddleston was not strictly a 'villain' but you can say he was pretending to be one whilst undercover. If anything he was the hero

Splitting hairs there.
Just like other bbc "dramas" i've attempted to watch this is just too bland for my palate, the bbc big wigs need to sit down and watch a few hbo or amc produced box sets. they just don't come close to comparing to the quality coming out of the usa.
The problem grillnun is that the BBC spent a lot of money on this but it still turned out bland. British audiences want soap opera and lightweight stuff for the most part. People should watch Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy from the BBC archive to see how they used to do drama. Edge of Darkness is a good shout too.

For me it made a nice change. I watch Vikings, Walking Dead and Black Sails but they get a bit heavy. Loads of shows (and films) go for nihilism and grand speeces of great import as a crutch to hide the lack of plot. Black Sails is a prime example, spinning out a series with constant lecturing between charachters thats meant to sound very deep but emds up grating to me as it feels like filler. I like a good old fashioned yarn and this show never outstayed its welcome and for me was entertaining from start to finish

Yeah - that like indicates that I'm not the only one who got your comment. Why would I assume you were referring to this particular show by your description? He was hardly a villain to those watching - I just assumed you meant another of his roles. Anyway, there are any number of reasons why he might not have had a west country accent - not everyone from there speaks like "Jethro". (_;)

I felt conned, they played OHMSS theme in the trailer and showed him in the alps but imstead of a great snow chase sequence he flys down down the mountain in a plane and crash lands the plane into the convoy of bad guys. It felt like a joke on bond fans..bait and switch

You're spot on there, Bushes, the keyword being "archive"!

The likes of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, or I Claudius, or House of Cards are several magnitudes ahead of this.

Of course, such programme series were made "in house" in those days, without an eye on copying from (or capitalising from resales to) the US market... coincidence?
