Why don't these types of bags have a flat bottom? I got another North face bag that is annoying to use as you can't put it down and balance it upright anywhere. I'm wondering what's the reason they do that?

No one likes a flat bottom

Is that the only reason? I find it's not practical having to lay the whole bag down horizontal.

Apologies, that was my poor attempt at humour!

I have a North Face backpack. To be honest, I've never found it an issue in that's either on my back or leaning against something when on the ground.

What's Amazon policy on returns?

You usually pay for returns. Except on clothing where it specifically states free returns on the listing
This is a great hard wearing bag. Not the original use I'd expect....Kids have it for school. Into 3rd year of use for one kid and 2nd for the other. Bought them both at reduced prices so value for money is excellent as they are still "fashionable" for the teen set. Not even a mention of a new bag for new term. One has even been in washing machine and survived (burst highlighter inside). Scotch guard sprayed them too. Just keeps them looking good. Especially when they're thrown onto floors in various locations around the school!

Amazon has free returns? Their return policy is outstanding, they even take used items on occasion, hell Ive been refunded items and they don't even ask me to send them back (obviously low value items).
