Synopsis
An adaptation of Ricky Gervais' sitcom THE OFFICE, THE OFFICE AN AMERICAN WORKPLACE is a comedy that follows the daily lives of employees at a fictional paper company. This collection includes every episode from series one through three, chronicling each moment of the flirtation (and much anticipated romance) between secretary Pam (Jenna Fischer) and prankster salesman Jim (John Krasinksi), as well as the painfully quirky exploits of super-geek Dwight (Rainn Wilson), and the gently angsty existence of the temp, Ryan (B.J. Novak). The show's true locomotive, however, is their boss, Michael Scott, played with masterly comic timing by Steve Carell. Scott is a middle manager of such shudder-inducing obliviousness that one never knows whether to be protective of him, embarrassed by him, or simply enraged at his behaviour; the only thing Carell's performance guarantees is an endless source of uncomfortable entertainment.

Its not a watered down version of the British one. Have you actually watched it?

yes i have, steve carell sucks, besides, i didnt say watered down, i said DUMBED down, the jokes are more obvious, typical american garbage, i know gervais and merchant had something to do with it, but clearly not enough, those who prefer this over the original uk version fall into this bracket, sorry

Well i think its one of the best sitcoms around and dont think theres anything dumb about it. The writing is sharp and the supporting cast play their roles well. Steve Carrell is supposed to be annoying and cringey just as Ricky Gervais was in the UK version

No, it isn;t that, steve carell in general is annoying, imo this is typical of america, this comedy did not need ot be remade for their pathetic tv network, uk version is superior in every way, and the only reason they made this is because the american tv network has to have US produced programs on primetime, to satisy their advertisers who are only interested in brainwashing american people with a million commercials every 5 minutes.

BBC america clearly isn't enough for them

You are entitled to your opinion of course, but imo this version is just dire, and as i said, unneccesary, as far as im concerned it doesnt exist

Ahhhhhh I love people commenting on something when they have only seen the, by the makers own admission, poor first series, series 2 onwards this gets very very good!

But yes you are entitled to your opinion.

But as Dwight would say, "you are wrong, FACT!"

You see I didn't watch after a couple of the early episodes because of the comparison I was trying to make with the UK version. But, I am a huge fan of Curb your enthusiasm which was one of Gervais' big influences in creating his comedy genre (lots of cringe and no tight scripts).

So; maybe this deserves further viewing. I think its too easy to label the american audience with the 'thick' badge because we like to think of ourselves as superior in at least something. The fact is I know a fair few american comedies from the last few years that far outstrip ANY British comedies that we have knocked out in recent times. (Will Ferrell films, Superbad, The Hangover).

The American audience might be different, but they are educated and they invented and ran one of the most popular comedy sitcoms in the world that I bet has outsold Monty Python a hundred times over. Friends!!
