The range of musical excerpts from a programme I fondly remember watching every Tuesday night during it's early years is so broad that a review, per se, is largely redundant. The mix of full-on live, live vox with backing track, and entirely mimed (though mostly very well) can be viewed as either quaint or irritating.
The original purchase I made had a fault: toward the start of most tracks there was a very short (less than a second) pause/jump. While it didn't ruin my enjoyment it was (is) irritating. Amazon, as is their way (for which I applaud them) replaced it instantly. Sadly the replacement has the same fault: so the Beeb are to blame. Beware.

Personal highlights include Kristofferson/Coolidge dueting "Help Me Make It Through The Night....real sexual tension, a young Tom Waits (Tom Traubert's Blues), Talking Heads (Psycho Killer), Robert Wyattt (Shipbuilding), Head Hands & Feet with Albert Lee and a pre-Chas'n'Dave Chas Hodges (Warming Up The Band), Gary Moore & "Friends" (i.e. Thin Lizzy) just to see the wonderful Phil Lydon again, and, maybe best of all, Stevie Marriott a la Humble Pie doing Black Coffee....definitely LIVE.

It's a great show but have seen volumes one and two for as little as £3.99 so not so hot at £5 odd per show.

Hi Katie,Sorry you have not heard of this show,I guess you are in your teens our early 20s,This was
the only show to watch a few years ago,to see live bands,If showed some great acts.
Nearly 10 hours of live acts on 4 DVDS,You voted very cold.
I will look for some GIRLS ALOUD AND THE SPICE GIRLS for you the next time.

Volumes 1 and 2 fluctuate and both have been as little as £3.99 on numerous occasions at cd-wow. The use of vouchers make them cheaper still.

Therefore this seems very expensive compared to what we have had in the past, and probably will get again in the future.

Ah, Whispering Bob Harris.

These were the days when artistes played instruments, songs had lyrics that weren't about drive-by shootings and bling, words weren't invented so they would rhyme, the singers sang live and weren't subject to key corrections when they hit bad notes etc.

You may have heard some of the songs covered by boy bands or troops of slappers with fat lips and inch thick make-up.

My daughter once watched Barry Manilow singing "Could it be magic" and asked "Huh, how come he is singing a Take That song???"
Reply "Er....... maybe because he only wrote it"
