The Outer Worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.

In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it.

As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable. The player-driven story RPG: In keeping with the Obsidian tradition, how you approach The Outer Worlds is up to you.

Your choices affect not only the way the story develops; but your character build, companion stories, and end game scenarios. You can be flawed, in a good way: New to The Outer Worlds is the idea of flaws. A compelling hero is made by the flaws they carry with them. While playing The Outer Worlds, the game tracks your experience to find what you aren’t particularly good at.

Keep getting attacked by Raptidons? Taking the Raptiphobia flaw gives you a debuff when confronting the vicious creatures, but rewards you with an additional character perk immediately. This optional approach to the game helps you build the character you want while exploring Halcyon. Lead your companions: During your journey through the furthest colony, you will meet a host of characters who will want to join your crew. Armed with unique abilities, these companions all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It’s up to you to help them achieve their goals, or turn them to your own ends.

Explore the corporate colony: Halcyon is a colony at the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by a corporate board. They control everything... except for the alien monsters left behind when the terraforming of the colony’s two planets didn’t exactly go according to plan. Find your ship, build your crew, and explore the settlements, space stations, and other intriguing locations throughout Halcyon.

I honestly don't mind short games. I actually prefer them over something like Red Red Red-emption . When a game is lengthy I feel I can never start playing it and keep postponing it. I am now very scared of starting DS but at the same time I have to! I guess the meaning of expectation is different person to person too. But I fall in minority, I know.

That said, this game is currently on offer and it will be cheaper hopefully tomorrow from other places.

One thing that certainly has surprised me though, is how short the game actually is. HowLongToBeat are recording 10 hours for the main game, and 20 hours for the Completionists Heat added, cheapest available I think

Completed this around 3 days ago and have been playing through it since release. To fully do 100% everything in the game my play through game in at 39 hours. You can actually complete the game in under 30 mins if you rush through it. Great game and heat added especially for not have micro transactions in it and being bug free atleast on my play through

There are rumours that Death Stranding is going to be 150 hours to platinum. I would need something to help me keep my hopes up and high at the same time and this would do nicely.

Ordered! Thanks
If you haven't already bought it you may as well wait for the inevitable price drops coming up in the run up to Black Friday and Christmas and save more money.

10 hours? Aw man. I'm about 5 hours in and don't feel like I'm anywhere near the end but I am going for every single quest. I used game pass though so can't complain for a quid.
I love the look of this game, ive been watching a Lets Play of it on Youtube with a guy that plays pretty much like how i play. The thing i both like and dislike about it is that all interactions can be remediated with talking. I love that aspect of it, but there is no chance effect involved, As long as your stats are high enough you can just intimidate some other action to talk your way round, and thats it. I would much prefer your stats improving your chances but there still being a risk rather than at level 50 its a Pass and under its a Fail.

Of course the meaning of expectation is different from person to person I was speaking from my point of view.

I understand it's welcomed by some, I'm just expressing that I'm surprised at such a short length for the game. It's not so much an issue for those on Game Pass (FREE GAMES!!! ), I just think it's worth a mention for those dropping £38 on it and expecting more.

Purchased, thanks!
With any game like this the first thing I do is wander off mission to look for all the stuff to do, all in it might have taken me 30+ hrs give or take whereas Fallout 4 would probably be more than double that. Definitely worth taking the time to explore. I enjoyed my time with it, although having played all the Fallouts and Skyrims etc it`s good not great but that may be just because it`s such a similar experience. It`s really going to need the mod community to add some longevity to it as I`m not sure I`d play it again. Bethesda are also going to have to raise their game though as it feels more polished than any of theirs. Much better voice acting all round.

If your going for every single quest , side quest and companion quests and collecting secret armour and weapons then you will finish it closer to 40 hours. People who finish it under 30 hours are not doing everything in the game. The length is what u make it as u can complete fallout or Skyrim reasonably quickly if you just rush through it missing all the side quests and secret loot. Great game enjoy
Completed this yesterday, good game overall with plenty of side quests to keep you busy so highly recommend!

I've tried to stick to my rule of not continuing with a plat if I'm not enjoying it. AC Odyssey was borderline at times but the gameplay was great. From what I've heard of DS there is a lot of time spent not doing an awful lot.
Do you think Amazon will price match?

I heard it was pretty short. Started playing it, probably about 15+ Hours in and I'm only on the second planet with loads of side quests to complete.

Also most of the faster playthroughs seem to be on PC, I imagine with a real fast SSD, there's less loading compared to a HDD like on X Box One
Great game... Paid a quid to play it on pc for the next month...

Took me 35 hours and the clock dont include how the time you die and do that part again I did play it on hard but I didn't platinum it but I did do all the the side missions
Any good? I’m thinking of picking this up.
howlongtobeat is a useful website if you dig down a little bit more and look at the recorded times.

If you look at the 'leasure' times recorded it says 36 hours if you play all content. You could rush the game, skip every cutscene and skip all dialogue and only do the main quest and finish the game in 7 and a half hours, but do most people do that?

I'd also guess that website attracts a lot of people who want to see how quickly they can beat a game so it throws off the median times recorded.

Anyway it's a great website, I use it all the time but just read a bit further into the times recorded.

I'm actually finding this game to be quite a boring plod on Xbox One, I've been playing about 8 hours and I don't think I'll bother finishing it. Texture loading times can be appalling also, everytime you get close to an object you have to wait a couple of seconds for it unblur before you can view it clearly, really takes me out of the story. Maybe it's different on PS4.
If you like looking at loading screens you’ll love this game.

I'm 21 hours in and only half the planets have been visited but I'm doing everything possible. So don't be fooled. No way you can do every side quest, companion quest and task that quickly imo.

How much is game pass?

How much does Xbox Game Pass cost?

Xbox Games Pass is priced at £7.99 a month. You can get your first month for just £1 from xbox.com/gam…ass.
You can cancel at any time during your membership.

I'm playing on PC. Load times off an SSD are pretty good for a game like this. I don't mind short games tbh when you work out cost to gameplay but was hoping this would be over 100 hours to finish. How are you finding it?
Just traded in my sons copy, £35 cash at cex.not bad as game was just under £40. Musicmagpie was offering 17p cash!
I played through on Normal and it took me 23hrs. Absolutely cracking game. Bring on some DLC or a sequel/prequel.

Just need to go through again and make different decisions

Never had that problem once on the XB1X
Been playing this on Xbox and it is a very good game! I keep doing side missions so it is taking longer to complete but i don't care :P.
