Executive produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, The Pacific is an epic ten-part miniseries from HBO and the team that made Band of Brothers.

The Pacific tracks the intertwined real-life stories of three U.S Marines, Robert Leckie, John Basilone and Eugene Sledge across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World War 2. The miniseries follows these men and their fellow Marines from their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu, across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and through the horror of Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day.

The Pacific is primarily based on two memoirs of US Marines, Eugene Sledge's With The Old Breed: At Peleliu And Okinawa and Robert Leckie's Helmet For My Pillow. The series also draws on Eugene Sledge's China Marine and Chuck Tatum's Red Blood, Black Sand, as well as original interviews conducted by the filmmakers.

Cheapest I can see is £19.99 .
Still a good series. Looking forward to the 3rd HBO/Spielberg mini series based on the USAAF bomber crews.
Great television: moving and - unsurprisingly, given the subject matter - harrowing to watch at times. Not quite up there with Band of Brothers IMHO, but a good price. Recommended.
There's a third Hanks/Spielberg WWII series that's going to be made too. Based around the air force I believe. Hopefully closer to BoB than this in terms of quality....
Like band of brothers... crossed with rather boring history homework.
Watching episode 4 right now..

do you have a link?
Loved both series, you just have to accept them for what they are. Not compare them all the time....

Masters of the air

Voted hot since its the *cheapest available and certainly worth watching if you haven't seen it already.

The most common negative thing you hear about it is that it is no Band of Brothers, often stated because of the obvious comparisons. If you actually take the time to watch this as it is intended rather than wanting to get to know the individuals involved (BoB again) then you'll see what a quality mini-series this is.

edit: I picked this up on BR a few months ago when it was cheaper, only those with a time machine can justifiably vote this deal cold.

Well that's random, are you basing that on ongoing auctions that are no where near their expiry or can you see something none of us can?

Only a brief article, but one to keep an eye out for in a few years.

I understand what you're saying if its just a heads up, you were just very vague in your original and dismissive comment that came within a minute of the deal being posted.

There's no way you can compare ongoing auctions with something that can be bought directly from a retailer. People use this website for finding good deals that have a set price, ebay auctions are a totally different kettle of fish and often only one person has a chance of getting the item.
