In the 13th century, the lands along the shores of the Baltic Sea are ruled by bloodthirsty Pagan clans. The most powerful of these clans, rules the land of Semigallia, where even Vikings fear to tread. In Rome, the Pope's illegitimate son, Max, tells his father that he will wage a crusade against the Pagan warriors, take over their land, and become their ruler. The reigning King of Semigallia is poisoned and on his deathbed bestows power to an unexpected heir, a common man named Namejs. By accepting the “Ring of Kings” the new heir to the throne must unite his people and wage war against the violent battalions of Roman soldiers.
