One of the best movies I've ever seen.

Fear can hold you prisoner...Hope can set you free.

City banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) arrived at Shawshank Prison in 1947. Convicted of two brutal murders, he received a double life sentence and discovers that when they send you to Shawshank State Prison for life, that is exactly what they take.

Within the confines of Shawshank, Andy forms an unlikely friendship with the prison "fixer" Red (Morgan Freeman). He also becomes popular with the Warden and the prison's guards, as Andy is able to use his banking experience to help the corrupt officials amass personal fortunes.

With an extraordinary twist in the tale, Andy finds that survival comes down to a simple choice: get busy living or get busy dying...

It has been this price for absolutely ages. If you haven't got it despite the low price after all this time, then chances are you have not got many DVDs, so you might be better off getting this collection ...

I left my copy at home, I'm thinking of buying another one for uni

Free with the Sunday Times 2 weeks ago

Everytime this film is posted (on any format) this comment below ALWAYS follows, it's like it's almost fashionable to say it, people have got to get in their first to say it:-D I have seen the film, years ago, but honestly could not tell you if it was any good or not, was it really that good? & the amount of times it has been posted on here over the years I think everyone should have a copy of it by now.

I think it is the good story which makes it so popular, but personally I enjoyed the book more than the film. Whereas with The Body (from the same book), I preferred the film (Stand By Me).

I got the free copy from the Sunday Times, however the quality is very poor.

Same here, so I bought it from Amazon for £2.98 (I ordered The Green Mile & Trailer Park Boys as well to get the free delivery).

Anyone know if this is the latest version?

One of the worst movies I've ever seen.

All it's good points are completely eroded by the ridiculous idea that someone could dig a huge tunnel with a toffee hammer and manage to keep their teeth in the shower. If he'd have lost his teeth maybe I could have overlooked the toffee hammer but that's just a bit of fantasy taken too far.

Cold for being a poorly-researched piece of fantasy.
