The price for the 2 DVD's in this box set cost £11.99 each. Over-priced as that is, this box set is most certainly good value for money in rip-off Britain.

As they think about which high school to attend, Mikako is selected for military service. The Earth is in the middle of an interstellar war against the alien Tarsians, and Mikako has just the abilities that they are looking for. Their budding relationship is over before it could really begin, but the two adolescents promise to keep in touch by sending text messages through their cell phones. But as Mikako goes to Mars, then Jupiter and even fights in orbit around Pluto, the time that it takes for one of her messages to reach Noboru grows and grows. To add to their problems over the months that she's gone traveling at relativistic speeds, he's aged years. How will they ever be able to keep in touch when Mikako travels to anther star and the messages take years and years to transverse the distance? The Place Promised in Our Early Days: This is the story of two friends in middle school, Takuya and Hiroki, who live in an alternate Japan. In this world, the country has been split in two; one side autonomous and the other closely allied with the US. The US side has created a huge tower that climbs up into the clouds, of unknown purpose. Takuya and Hiroki are obsessed with the tower and come up with an ambitous plan: They are going to build a plane and fly over the border to the see the tower close up. They scrounge parts, and get jobs to afford the pieces they can't find. The pair is joined by a classmate, Sayuri. She likes them and hangs around while they build their plane. One day though, something happens at the tower. There is an explosion which Sayuri whitnesses, she gets hit by the shockwave. After this, the friends don't see each other for three years, and when they do meet up, things have drastically changed.

Do you have the IMDB link to this Aion? Having trouble spotting it.

Thanks. Is it a series of movies (EDIT - or a series?) ? And would you recommend them?

They get pretty high ratings there on IMDB, which I usually use to judge my own viewing

Voices of a Distant Star is good (haven't seen the other one).
It's shockingly short though - IMDB lists it as 25mins long which is even shorter than I remember!

The films aren't connected. They do have similar themes (namely love) running through them, though.

The first, Voices of a Distant Star, is a short 25 minute movie that made Makoto Shinkai famous. It amazed people how he made something so short have such an impact.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days was his first feature length movie. Most people loved that even more, viewing it as an extended version of his first short film in many ways. Personally, I loved the first half and disliked the second half of the movie.

I'd recommend them both to anyone who can sit through love stories and the like.

This seems a pretty good deal to me. It looks to be cheaper than most US sites once you include shipping.

I'd recommend this if you like pretty cell artwork.

Welcome to HUKD Seikai no Yumi.

I think I'll see if I can stick some on my rental list to see if I like them. Thanks for the post Aion.

Just watched Voices of a Distant Star, courtesy of Lovefilm. It was really good. If there hadn't been a few friends with me, I would have blubbed, but I managed to keep it in :-D

I'll try the other one too

Lovefilm...isn't that an online rental store?

Would've been quicker to download from KickAssAsnime (KAA) - They do the best quality anime DVD-rips.

For those with a PS3/blu-ray, these are coming on blu-ray around Xmas (also including Byousoku Go Senchimetoru or 5cm per second if you prefer). These films are amazing in High Def! I got the Voices of a distant star Blu-ray a while back from japan.

5cm per second is by far the best of the three so far, so i would recomend anyone who already has seen these and just wants the collection to wait till after Xmas and get the "Trioligy" box that is coming, eiether on DVD or Blu-ray, i know i will :).

Still a good find!

EDIT, And about KAA, definatly the best Rippers out there always archive there stuff since its allot better then lending my dvd's to friends (never trust anyone with your anime!) Even helped them with some releases myself ^_^
