Wow. Just wow. How can they possibly justify a price tag like that... For this?

As genuine Lego goes this is pretty typical. About 7p per brick is average I think and from memory this set has about 2,500 pieces. Clearly much more expensive than the Chinese copies or Mega Bloks but holds it value fantastically if looked after/set kept complete

I bet you know all bank food around you...

Hilarious. Maybe one day when you rely on the food bank to eat you'll find this just as amusing

It might be selling on amazon for £170 but whether anyone is actually paying that for it is another matter.
Example - I have a ‘retired’ Mk.3 Fiesta 1.0 L from 1992. Selling it for £18,995 but not much interest yet.

It’s just a shame all the characters look so miserable..
It's a great set, it's the Simpsons and it's retired already! It's only going to go up in value. What's not to love! Heat!!!

Rubbish quality bricks. The feel on lego is so smoother.

Le fake!
All you haters... Wait for a year or 2 when this set is worth over double this... My parents always said "Invest in bricks and..." (forgot the rest hahaha)... Better than "building" society rates

A friend of mine picked up a Lepin version of the tumbler from batman begins and on the whole was pretty impressed with it. A few small casting issues on a couple of the bricks, but certainly good enough for the difference in price to the real thing.

I am sorry, but if you buy a fake, its still going to be a fake. Like that real Rolex you buy from a bloke on the beach in Spain. You can buy this and build it - then still sell it for more in 6 months. Buy the fake, keep it mint for 6 years... and it will be worth less than you bought it for. LEGO are taking action on the fakes and they are winning.

I assume you are new to the world of Lego.
My 6 y.o. got this today and loves it- spent all day building it. Nice set.

Again, that just won’t happen. Second hand sets are selling on eBay for £90-£120, so buy it and sell it in six months for £100 less!!!

Got this recently from Toys R Us with 20% off , brilliant set
or another case - look at the 3 camels for the LEGO Scooby sets. Particularly 75904. Retired last year, bought for 55 - watch the camel price. It seems to be the obscure that ramp up in price.

Are they winning?
A better solution would be for Lego to stop making mega bucks and be happy with a modest profit to put counterfeiters out of business!
Lepin make a damn good copy for the money, usually for a third of the price of the Lego original. Lego is only an investment because they discontinue the run, as where Lepin seem to continue to reproduce them.
Is it better to get the kwik-e-mart? That says retiring soon ...?
Get it while u can. I bought this and built it with my daughter 2 yrs ago as a daddy+daughter project. Probably the best Lego set we've done even compared to toy story sets. Well worthwhile and a great set fir either investment or hobbyists.
xmas day 2017... "Daddy, what is Lepin?" - "didn't Jesus cure the Lepins?"

The KWIK-EE was marked as retiring about 4 weeks ago, the House was a sneaky retiree about the same time, no warning was given then it was retired suddenly with no warning. LEGO just got some more - or its an error on their part having more stock. But it was retired... No online shops have it apart from LEGO right now.

What’s the chances it was retired by mistake and there is loads of stock and no plans to retire soon?
I give up.... Philistines the lot of you!!! lol - BUY LEGO (not LEPER). As for set 71016 KWIK-e-mart, it has been announced as retiring, but - it has not sold out fast enough to be a short term investment. Look at some of the CITY bigger sets that have been out there for a while, or controversially, some of the FRIENDS sets. The Grand Hotel 41101 has just retired and gone bonkers prices, so look at some of these sets.
Perfect timing. Bought to go with the Kwik-Emart I got today as a christmas pressie :0)

I wasn’t scoffing- just having a conversation about which one will be rarer in time to come.

Plus I just bought the house and added you some heat.

You take your chance, but the Simpson House had disappeared from the LEGO stock list completely unless you searched for it specifically, which showed it had retired.
